National Philanthropy Day® was founded by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and first held in 1982. The purpose is to acknowledge the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and recognize the profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of society.
There are currently more than 4,800 nonprofit organizations in the state* that employ a combined total more than 250,000 staff members. These organizations also have thousands of donors and volunteers who are committed to making a difference in the lives of millions of people every single year…both in Minnesota and throughout the world.
Philanthropy Day gives us a chance to honor those donors, volunteers and staff who are making a difference every day. Hosted each year by the Minnesota Chapter of AFP, this celebration includes a formal luncheon and awards presentation to honor local individuals and businesses who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, as well as generosity of time and resources, to encourage and advance philanthropy in our community.
