Job Description
Job Title: Donor Relations Officer
Reports to: Development Director

Job Summary
The Donor Relations Officer (DRO) is a leader in Can Do Canines fundraising efforts by implementing and managing an effective mid-level donor program that will significantly grow Can Do Canines’ contributed income over time. The DRO will serve a caseload of donors by initiating, building, and maintaining dynamic, reciprocal relationships with individuals, couples, and families who partner financially with Can Do Canines. The program’s goals are to enhance the experience of Can Do Canines mid-level donors (roughly defined as $500-$2,500), to increase their retention rates and giving over time, and to identify donors from this pool who have major gift capacity and want deeper engagement with Can Do Canines.

Salary Range & Benefits: Exempt, Salaried $65,000 - $70,000

Eligible for Health, Dental and Life Insurance, 403(b), Paid Time Off (PTO)

Hours Required: Minimum 40 Hours per week, including weekend and evening hours.

Frequent Interactions With: Executive Director, Senior Development Officer, Development Assistant, Development Associate, Event Producer, Marketing/Communications team and Program team members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages relationships with mid-level donors in a tiered portfolio. (The portfolio will be defined with input from the Development Director, Senior Development Officer, and the Veritus Group, our mid-level consultants.)
2. Engages donors through consistent and active communication to cultivate, steward, and solicit them using various channels including phone, email, US mail, and occasionally face-to-face meetings, with a premium placed on donor retention and increased giving.
3. Coordinates with coaches at the Veritus Group, an external consultant, to implement a prescribed system of mid-level donor engagement under the supervision of Veritus and the Development Director.
4. Uses primarily pre-existing content, such as newsletter articles and blogs, to create personal touchpoints for donors, based on their interests and giving. Determines which donors would benefit from more personalized or more frequent contact.
5. Keeps accurate communication records in DonorPerfect and develops reports to track and report on progress.
6. Cultivates donor relationships by updating, appreciating, and asking mid-level donors to deepen their financial partnership.
7. Learns about Can Do Canines’ programs and projects to effectively communicate with donors.
8. Identifies donors who want a deeper engagement with Can Do Canines for introduction and “hand-off” of relationship management to the Development Director, Executive Director, or Senior Development Officer.
9. Meets with the Development Director on a weekly basis for accountability and to discuss strategy.
10. Identifies and implements best wealth screening and other prospect research tools for development team use.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Experience
Demonstrated ability to develop, deepen, and sustain positive relationships with donors. Excellent phone, written, and interpersonal skills. Highly self-motivated with a genuine curiosity in people, an interest in engaging donors, and a talent of uncovering their passions and interests. Keen attention to detail. Experience in working with a donor-centered database is mandatory. This position also requires public speaking, use of a telephone and computer to perform work, and working with strict deadlines. The ideal candidate will have organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to balance priorities as part of a collaborative team. A valid driver’s license and insurability are required.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in related field is preferred. At least two years of experience in development, donor relations, events, or other similar roles with increasingly responsible positions in development.

Join Can Do Canines fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship events as needed. Keep abreast of tax laws pertinent to charitable giving and keep current on community issues that pertain to Can Do Canines and our mission. Keep current on and conversant with organizational priorities, programs, and projects. Other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned.
