MCM and the Development team are in search of their next team member. While the position will primarily focus on Corporate & Foundation Relations, we are looking for candidates who model and practice collaboration within the Development team and across the organization. This can play out in a variety of ways that include ensuring a successful execution of fundraising events to identifying organizational needs and pairing fundraising strategies to support those needs. This position is an individual contributor and may oversee department consultants and interns as opportunities arise.  

The Corporate and Foundation Relations Officer is a key person who will develop and implement an effective, comprehensive, and strategic institutional giving program, which includes strategies for prospecting, acquisition, cultivation, stewardship and retention of foundations, corporate donors and sponsors. This individual will oversee and ensure annual and long-term institutional fundraising goals are met; and will be responsible for maintaining a portfolio of prospective and active corporate and foundation donors and managing grant prospecting, qualifying, and writing. The upcoming annual fundraising goal for this position is $750k which is about 36% of MCM's total contributed revenue.

The Corporate and Foundation Relations Officer is eligible to work a hybrid work schedule (not remote only). Hybrid Schedule: minimum of 2-3 days in office. Initial months will require more on-site days to facilitate transition and training.

REPORTS TO:  Vice President of Philanthropy 

ANNUAL SALARY: $70,000 - $74,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual and long-term corporate and foundation philanthropy and sponsorship strategy that aligns with the organization’s revenue goals.
  • Prepare and implement an annual plan for corporate and foundation fundraising, ensuring annual and long-term revenue and overall budget goals are met.
  • Manage and maintain prospective and active institutional grant funders list and grants calendar; monitor all deadlines and guidelines.
  • Provide strategic direction in institutional giving for the museum. Maximize annual institutional donors and align philanthropic requests with revenue needs, provide insight on foundation, corporate giving and sponsorship trends. 
  • Manage a portfolio of funders, leading personal solicitation and stewardship. Advise relationships that should reside within the portfolios of the Vice President of Philanthropy and President. 
  • Innovate and enhance the corporate partnership program at the museum through opportunities including but not limited to: event sponsorships, employee giving campaigns, matching gifts, and strategic partnerships. 
  • Research, write, assemble, and submit funding requests for general operations and special projects from corporate and granting resources. 
  • Oversee systems for reporting, analysis and tracking of institutional giving.
  • Ensure high quality standards in grants production and associated materials. 
  • Communicate effectively across multiple departments to ensure knowledge and understanding of philanthropy and the organization’s goals. 
  • Partner with colleagues for resources needed to submit proposals and fulfil partnership requests. 
  • As leader of the corporate sponsorship program, work cross-departmentally to identify and create unique sponsorship opportunities. Ensure corporate sponsor benefits are delivered and in accordance with contracts.
  • Prepare revenue forecasts for institutional giving, identify revenue risks, and recognize potential areas for growth.

  • First Round – 30 minute phone interview with Talent Resources.
  • Second Round – 1 hour TEAMS virtual interview with hiring manager.
  • Final Round – 1 - 2 hour in-person interview with hiring manager and MCM stakeholders.
  • Interview questions will be provided prior to each round for candidates to prepare as you wish. The on-site interviews will give candidates the opportunity to see both the mission in action and our workplace environment.
Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum of 8 years of formal education, training or experience in development, institutional giving, grant writing, communications, or related field.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in successful results with relationship-based fundraising.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trends in institutional giving, including grants management, corporate philanthropy, and sponsorships. 
  • Prior experience developing and meeting short and long-term budgeted goals. 
  • Prior experience in writing, achieving and managing high level grants.

  • Ability to pivot between strategic and tactical work.
  • Ability to be proactive and communicate effectively with a variety of staff, volunteers, board members, donors and donor prospects.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strategic and creative problem-solving skills and proven ability to prioritize and manage numerous deadlines and tasks. 
  • Proven ability to respond to opportunities and changes within institutional donors’ goals and desired outcomes.
  • Experience with a donor database management system.
