Salary Range: $70,000 - $76,000 

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Development and Major Gifts and working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, the Associate Director of Individual Giving will employ best practices and industry knowledge to broaden and deepen Washburn Center’s base of individual support. Key areas of emphasis for the position include: building a high performing individual giving program and identifying prospects who can become major donors over time. Developing strategies to achieve ambitious year over year growth goals is also central to this position.

The Associate Director works with a variety of constituencies including volunteers, donors, Trustees and staff and manages the Special Events Coordinator and Development Operations Assistant.

Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Individual Giving works cross-functionally with the entire Advancement Team. This position provides oversight of Washburn Center’s Annual Fund, manages a portfolio of mid-level individual donors and corporate sponsors, and oversees the execution of the agency’s annual fundraising and community outreach events.

Annual Fund
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development and Major Gifts, develop and implement comprehensive Annual Fund strategies to meet Washburn Center’s short and long-term need for philanthropy and maximize revenue from individual giving.
  • Create, implement and manage donor programs to drive individual gifts, including traditional and digital appeals.
  • Coordinate efforts to sustain and grow the individual donor base at all contribution levels and implement practices to increase donor acquisition, retention and upgraded giving.
  • Work with development team colleagues to create and implement a highly engaging donor cultivation plan to retain first time donors and cultivate mid-level donors for increased annual fund giving.
  • Manage a portfolio of 60 – 75 current and prospective mid-level donors and institutional sponsors with an emphasis on cultivating these donors to deeper engagement and financial commitment.
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing and communications team to create and execute fundraising campaigns across multiple platforms and channels, ensuring consistency of voice, tone and messaging.

Special Events
  • Oversee the successful implementation of an annual calendar of fundraising and community outreach events, tailored to meet the agency’s contributed income and awareness goals.
  • In partnership with the Director of Development and Major Gifts, clarify the primary purpose and goal for each event and develop corresponding metrics for success.
  • Collaborate with Special Events Coordinator in the implementation of fundraising and community outreach events; hold coordinator accountable for achievement of corresponding acquisition, fundraising and awareness goals for each event.
  • Supervise Special Events Coordinator.

Data Management and Prospect Research
  • As supervisor of the Development Assistant, utilize Raiser’s Edge to provide insights into donor behavior and motivations, conduct meaningful analysis and produce reports for the Advancement Team that further individual giving objectives and increase contributed income.
  • Use Raiser’s Edge database to manage contacts, moves and relationships and track progress in cultivating donors to deeper investment in Washburn Center.
  • Develop and lead implementation of a prospect research process to a) expand the pipeline of mid-level and major donors and b) ensure steady focus on the agency’s top-rated prospects, including written prospect management plans with moves management stages, planned cultivation steps and proposed solicitation strategies.

General
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all Washburn Center’s programs and projects, participate in agency-wide initiatives to gain knowledge of program issues, provide insight on funding implications of decisions and seek out opportunities for periodic meetings with clinicians and supervisors.
  • Facilitate positive and effective communication with all Washburn Center staff, volunteers, Trustees and the public. Maintain open exchange of communication with Advancement Department colleagues and participate in regular team and individual meetings.
  • Remain current on funding opportunities, philanthropic trends and emerging best practices.
  • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Development and Major Gifts and/or Chief Advancement Officer.

Qualifications and experience required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • Minimum of 5-7 years progressive fundraising experience with an annual fund background.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals; ability to build relationships with both broad-base and high net worth donors.
  • Project management skills with capacity to think creatively and strategically in order to advance department goals.
  • Mature judgement, initiative and ability to make independent and effective decisions and work without close supervision.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced team environment and provide counsel and support to colleagues.
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm to improve and enhance current systems and operations.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Raiser's Edge or comparable database and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with leadership, board of directors, donors, and employees.
  • Must have own car, valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
