Position Overview:
The Advancement Research Analyst is an inquisitive and strategic member of Blake’s Advancement team. This colleague is responsible for knowing the Blake community, discovering relevant data and strategically employing that information in support of the school’s mission. The Advancement Research Analyst plays an important role in guiding the prospect management process and working in partnership with development officers to ensure an effective donor development cycle. This position will produce high-touch
research deliverables, analysis and reports while maintaining appropriate discretion and confidentiality at all times. The Advancement Research Analyst reports to the Director of Major Gifts and works collaboratively with all members of Advancement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Prospect Research
    • Collect, identify and file constituent-related information from a daily, weekly and monthly review of internal and external sources
    • Implement constituent research on a regular basis and as requested using internal sources and third party vendors
      • Analyze and synthesize data to assess constituent capacity, propensity and affinity
  • Produce polished, accurate and detailed reports and briefings for Advancement team and senior leadership
  • Prospect Management
    • Coordinate monthly Prospect Management meetings to ensure organized, collaborative and timely strategies are in place; disseminate agenda and materials prior to meeting and meeting outcomes and action steps post-meeting
    • Manage, train and advise portfolio managers on moves management system, including best practice procedures, tools, dashboards, reports and other resources within donor database
    • Advise portfolio managers on the life cycle of the donor relationship ensuring prospect stages, strategies and proposals are well developed and executed on a timely basis
  • Database Management
    • Enter and maintain prospect data in donor database working collaboratively with Advancement Services and the school’s Information Support Services department
    • Monitor portfolio manager prospect stages, strategies, action reports and proposals to ensure accurate information and procedures are followed
    • Serve as a backup for Advancement Services to enter, process and acknowledge gifts
    • Serve as a backup for special events to register constituents and share RSVP information as needed
  • Participate in school-wide activities and help represent Advancement in the life of the school
  • Support the Chief Advancement Officer with other tasks as needed

Experience and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three+ years of direct development experience, including prospect research, annual giving, major gifts or corporate and foundation support
  • Advanced knowledge of a fundraising relationship-management software, such as Raiser’s Edge, Veracross, Ellucian CRM Advance, Salesforce or similar
  • High level of customer service skills and adherence to donor-centered practices
  • Outstanding proficiency with spreadsheets and databases to create and run queries, exports and reports, as well as the ability to analyze and present data
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure accuracy and completeness of data tasks
  • Ability to be an adaptable problem solver in a dynamic environment
  • Value for inter-cultural competency and preference to work inclusively
  • Proven ability to manage time and multiple projects, while maintaining accuracy, timeliness and organization in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Gift entry or database management experience in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of independent schools

Essential Physical Requirements:

Working conditions include those typically associated with office environments: prolonged sitting, prolonged computer usage, and background noise level. While performing duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and perform tasks with repeated keyboard use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
