Headwaters Foundation for Justice is a nationally known social justice foundation that has been operating in the philanthropic space regionally for over 35 years. Advancing equity, demanding inclusion, transforming power, and trust in community drive Headwater’s grantmaking. These four values inform their philosophies around donor organizing and participatory grantmaking that is community-led. Headwaters invites individual donors and institutional partners to invest in this work as a form of activism advancing equity and justice in our state. Grant distribution relies on a long-standing criteria that emphasizes constituent leadership and use a community-led process for determining grants. Staff steward the administrative process, but do not make final funding decisions. Headwaters’ board of directors give final approval.

During this brown bag lunch you’ll get an introduction to the philosophy of donor organizing and participatory grantmaking. A radical model the philanthropic sector is curious about.
