The Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) Foundation in Fergus Falls, Minnesota seeks an engaged, resourceful, and forward-thinking philanthropy leader to serve as its next Development Director (DD). Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing & Communications and working in collaboration with the LRH CEO, other leaders and Boards of Directors, the DD will have responsibility for leading, developing and implementing an effective enterprise philanthropy program to support the financial stability of Lake Region Healthcare, its affiliated companies, and subsidiaries, which includes Prairie Ridge Hospital & Health Services, a Critical Access Hospital of which Lake Region Healthcare is the sole member, and Mill Street Residence, our Assisted Living Facility.

The DD will work closely with the enterprise collaborative leadership team who embrace the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The DD will have a unique opportunity to lead and to actively engage in the development and implementation of the organization’s new fundraising model. We are seeking a leader who can grow the Foundation and build on the vision for the role of philanthropy in our organization. This will be critical to help meet the operating & capital needs and further the strategic initiatives to position our enterprise to be successful in facing the challenges of the healthcare industry today and in the future.

Candidates best suited for the position will have experience in fundraising, relationship building, and/or sales experience relevant to building, managing and converting prospect lists. A skillset that can combine the science of mining relevant data with the art of building strong relationships is ideal. Preferred experience with endowments, planned-giving and estate planning. The ability to inspire and to influence giving among staff, physicians/providers, patients past & present, and community members is a must. A demonstrated record of successful fundraising through major donor relationships, strong communication skills, data-driven decision making, and a track record of meeting deadlines and goals are a plus.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in fundraising/philanthropy, non-profit management, business administration, marketing/communications or related area. Commensurate work experience may substitute for all or a portion of the degree requirement.
• Three years’ experience working in healthcare, not-for-profit or other industry performing fundraising, donor relations, business development and/or related responsibilities.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong writing and oral presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to embrace the culture and values of the enterprise as well as the ability to articulate the organization’s mission.
• Willingness to engage in front-line fundraising and the ability to effectively research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors.
• Valid MN driver’s license along with ability to travel locally, regionally and occasionally out of state for donor face-to-face meetings and to attend training & networking events.

Preferred Qualifications
• Three to five years successful experience managing and fundraising for a community or regionally based organization or a health-related nonprofit.
• Knowledge of the local/regional philanthropic/cultural landscape.
• Able to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the organization.
• Interest in all aspects of healthcare and a dedication to promoting the organization’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with leadership, medical staff, staff, other fundraising professionals, volunteers, and other supportive members/areas of the healthcare community.
• Demonstrated successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in development, including annual major gift-giving as well as prospect research.
• Demonstrated skills in the areas of major gift development, cultivation and solicitation.

Shifts:
Primarily day shifts, with flexibility for various events.

Department Description:
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Marketing & Communications. This position is highly visible in the organization and in the broader external community and requires integrity, good judgment, professionalism, a positive image of service, respect for all types of persons, and confidentiality. This position will be expected to interact with many different constituents and interact with the Senior Leadership and Boards of Directors on a regular basis.
