DEVELOPMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL ADVANCEMENT DIRECTOR

We achieve our mission by: (1) proactively weaving relationships among Asian American leaders and sector leaders, (2) engaging and mobilizing our leaders and impacted community members to work on the shared community priorities of education, economics and immigration, (3) supporting and elevating Asian American leaders to ensure our civic leadership is seen, valued and included, and (4) working collaboratively across identity and issue-based coalitions.

We seek a full-time Development and Organizational Advancement Director who will work closely with the Executive & Network Director, Board and Staff Leadership Team, to lead all development and advancement activities of the organization. This position will supervise the Development Associate and work closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager to develop plans to achieve development and advance goals. This position is a member of the staff Leadership Team and reports directly to the Executive & Network Director.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Development and Organizational Advancement Director is a seasoned, organizational, strategic, mission-focused and process-minded leader who has experience in development and fundraising and overall organizational advancement (including communications and marketing). They will oversee all of CAAL’s fundraising, build and manage data systems related to development and manage relationships with funders, sponsors, donors and volunteers. Their duties include planning and executing on all grants-based fundraising, plan and execute on individual donor and fundraising campaigns, develop systems and readiness to grow income generation services, and develop corporate partnerships. They will also oversee all in-kind donations and manage volunteers.

The Development and Organizational Advancement Director will interact with donors and funders and ensure appropriate staff are in relationships to increase understanding and support of CAAL’s work. Internally, they will lead planning processes, build systems and ensure staff can effectively participate in all areas of fundraising and development and building and maintaining relationships with funders and donors. Other roles and responsibilities will be varied, and will include contributing to the management and implementation of new initiatives as they arise.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute an annual development and fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations and clients to sufficiently meet annual budgets
  • Manage the implementation of donor database through EveryAction and grants prospecting and management through Grant Hub
  • Oversee staff responsible for data entry and develop standard operating procedures for all staff involved in entering information and reporting
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with donors, corporate partners, funders and clients
  • Create and execute a strategy to grow a sustained base of annual and major individual donors
  • Provide leadership for the communications and marketing work of the organization to ensure cohesion between development and advancement goals
  • Plan, executive and oversee donor events and gift giving campaigns
  • Develop proposals and manage successful grants to ensure required reports are submitted
  • Develop and track volunteer and in-kind support
  • Work closely with staff members to engage in and contribute to development and advancement activities
  • Support the Board Advancement Committee
  • Represent CAAL and our interests in key partnerships/coalitions
  • Help increase fundraising abilities of organization including: identification and analysis of prospects, creation of content and materials to support fundraising activities, and representing CAAL at external fundraising events and meetings
  • Oversee and analyze success and challenges with current development and advancement efforts and develop solutions to improve fundraising success
  • Design metrics to assess organizational development and advancement progress towards set goals and develop appropriate reports to guide decisions
  • Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training to effectively support development and advancement work
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to CAAL champions, board and staff members
  • Alleviate and address individual and collective challenges as necessary
  • Promote a culture of mutual accountability, high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality and impact

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in successful and comprehensive fundraising methods
  • Experienced in identifying sources of funding for nonprofit organizations
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, grant reporting, grants management and supporting staff to successfully do engage in grants processes
  • Experience in strategic planning, project management, financial management, staff supervision and development, and leading key internal strategic initiatives
  • Strong record of leading key organizational functions and teams with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Systems thinker with demonstrated ability to lead groups through process to make decisions, create plans and assess progress
  • Maintains process integrity to ensure standards are maintained at a high level across the organization
  • Experience working with boards of directors, funder, donors, volunteers, clients, partners and diverse community leaders
  • Knowledge of the U.S. nonprofit sector with a creative and critical mindset on what it means for CAAL to be a social justice network
  • Demonstrated success in organizational activities, including development/ fundraising
  • Willingness and availability to work on evenings and weekends when community is available with ability to travel, including occasional overnight and multi-day travel
  • Comfort and experience with public speaking to large and small groups on complex topics
  • Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal communication (listen, writing and speaking) skills
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
  • High achiever, agile, energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive
  • Passion for and strong understanding of CAAL’s vision, mission, values, and approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and people, taking ownership and driving activities to completion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google suites
  • Fluency in CRM, social media and grants management software

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
  • Strong knowledge of Asian/Asian American communities and their needs, especially in Minnesota

REPORTS TO:
Executive and Network Director

SALARY & BENEFITS:
This is a full-time exempt position with an annual salary range between $85,000-$100,000. LOCATION:
Though there is virtual work, we are located in Saint Paul, MN and prefer someone is locally based.
