Position Description
The Advancement Associate works with the advancement team to achieve Great River Greening’s ambitious fundraising, communications, and volunteer engagement goals. This position is a little unique, combining administrative support, event management, and communications into one. Do we ask a lot? Yes. But you’ll be fully supported by your fundraising team, Board members, and coworkers. This is a great opportunity for someone newer in their career with an interest in fundraising and communications. You can do a little of everything, learn new skills and meet cool people, all while protecting Minnesota’s land and water.

The Advancement Associate reports to the Advancement Director. The position is an exempt, full-time position with benefits including health, dental, 401k, LTD, Dependent Care and Health Care FSA, life insurance, and a PTO plan. Salary is $44,000, depending upon experience. Great River Greening offers a flexible workplace and staff are currently working remotely unless necessary.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration and Customer Service
  • Manage Salesforce database including gift and donor entry, data integrity, reporting
  • Manage all aspects of gift recognition
  • Manage and respond to all donor requests
  • Manage Board of Director and Advancement Committee meeting preparations
  • Take minutes at all appropriate meetings
  • Accept donations and event registrations via phone, online, or in-person
  • Monitor and manage shared email inboxes
  • Assist with direct mail appeals, including pulling donor lists, mail merges, assembly, and mailing
Fundraising Event Coordination
  • In support of the Gifts Officer, assist with all fundraising event activities including:
  • Vendor coordination (i.e. seating arrangements, food selections, etc.)
  • Recruit and manage event volunteers, helping them understand their roles/responsibilities
  • Track event activities, registrants, and other details
  • Coordinate silent auction, including solicitations, acknowledgments, and presentation on mobile bidding platform.
  • Manage the special events minutia (the supplies, packing list, last minute details, all in support of our mission!)
Marketing and Communications
  • Oversee the production, quality and consistency of all external publications including print newsletters, e-newsletters, brochures, and fact sheets. Write and produce an annual report.
  • Develop and manage annual social media plan and content calendar for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, including design, quality, and message content. All staff develop content – you just prep and share!
  • Troubleshoot website issues (Squarespace) and update content as needed
Skills and Abilities
  • Skilled in written and oral communication, including proofreading, writing, and editing skills.
  • Excellent proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, donor CRM databases, and Squarespace.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and provide consistent, proactive customer service
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding donor-related information
  • Experience with graphic design or graphic manipulation.
  • Experience with social media and website management/design, including Mail Chimp and Word Press.
  • Availability to attend seasonal Saturday events.
  • A “yes and” attitude! Open to new ideas, collaborative, and excited to figure out what works.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues a plus, but not necessary; we have plenty of passionate staff who can teach you.
Qualifications
  • 1+ year relevant experience in fundraising, marketing, and communications.
  • Experience with donor management databases. Experience with Salesforce a plus.
  • Experience with event planning
  • Knowledge of MS Office programs, Sharepoint, and Adobe Creative Suite.
