JOB SUMMARY
The Director Development reports to the Vice President of Development and is responsible for ensuring the day to day operations of the development department, the strategic advancement of Catholic Charities’ highest-level individual donors, and the management or greatest community partners and institutional funders. This position leads a team of three Major and Planned Giving Officers and two Corporate and Foundation Relations Grants Officers. This position is highly strategic and partnered with leaders directing Annual Fund, Development Operations, External Affairs and the Office for Social Justice.

The work of Individual Donor Relations and Corporate Foundation Relations at Catholic Charities is a rich experience with a large donor base. The organization and development team are poised to significantly increase annual operating dollars to adequately fund the day to day operations and to increase an already significant investment pool of funds from planned gifts.

The Director of Development is a highly visible and engaged representative of Catholic Charities in the community and will personally manage a portfolio of the organization’s most significant community partners. The Director is responsible for advancing strategies to build, grow and sustain institutional partnerships to advance the mission of Catholic Charities and achieve long-lasting impact in the broader community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Designs, implements and oversees donor engagement strategies to advance philanthropic relationships, using a strong mix of tools like SalesForce, Crescendo and a significant mix of contracts.
  2. Leads the active management of Major and Planned Gift portfolios for approximately 500 of the leading individual donors, through mentorship, activity-based goal setting and clear communication.
  3. Provides strategic leadership to build a leading edge planned giving program to steward approximately 450 existing legacy donors and to maximize long-term support from a highly qualified group of prospects.
  4. Leads the active management of Corporate and Foundation Grant portfolios of approximately 100 leading institutional funders. Responsible for strategic organizational relationship management, event sponsorship and other creative partnerships, institutional fundraising/grant management.
  5. Personally manages a portfolio of Major Gift donors and Institutional funders at the highest level. Provides relationship management / coordination for some of our most complex relationships with multiple relationship contacts.
  6. Works closely with the VP of Development and Executive Team members to effectively engage a top tier of donors capable of 6 and 7 figure commitments.
  7. Provides leadership and direction for effective reporting on results and to drive donor engagement activity.
  8. Works closely with the Director of Communications to ensure the tools are in place to effectively engage with donors at all levels through multiple channels.
  9.  Provides strategic leadership and budget management that monitors expense and revenue closely while also planning for strategic advancement in subsequent fiscal years.
  10. Represents the mission of Catholic Charities with the highest integrity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field. Master’s Degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Eight (8) years of successful Major Gift experience. Management experience required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Expertise in developing & sustaining lasting relationships with prospects/donors, including gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Advanced knowledge of charitable gift planning vehicles, investment principles and tax laws related to charitable giving.
  • Knowledge of the Twin Cities philanthropic community.
  • Ability to work independently, including developing and implementing annual strategies for leadership and planned gift initiatives.
  • Consistently conduct business that follows AFP’s Code of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.
  • Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills. Strong Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
  • Program analysis and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to prioritize multiple tasks by employing effective management strategies.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule, including local travel and occasional evening and weekend work.
