Tubman is seeking a full-time grant writer to join a dynamic and collaborative resource development team. This position requires a combination of high-quality communication and interpersonal skills combined with keen organizational and critical-thinking abilities. The ideal candidate will be a professional who has a passion for Tubman’s mission and services; has a successful history of securing both government and private sector grants; has clear, precise and compelling writing skills; and appreciates an organizational culture that celebrates diversity, learning, and fun.

This position offers flexibility and requires both remote and office work at Tubman’s Chrysalis Center location in south Minneapolis. This position reports to the Senior Grants, Contracts and Compliance Manager.

Examples of Duties of the Grant Writer
  • Conduct prospect research to identify, cultivate and solicit new government and private grants.
  • Communicate with funders to ask questions related to grant proposals.
  • Request program information, budget, goals and outcome projections from program leaders and finance department, and facilitate program planning and budgeting for funding opportunities.
  • Write, assemble, and conduct final review with program staff prior to submitting foundation, corporate, and government grant reports and proposals.
  • Work with Senior Grants, Contracts & Compliance Manager to communicate funding restrictions, monitor program spending, and ensure grant compliance in coordination with program leaders.
  • Work with Senior Grants, Contracts & Compliance Manager and program leaders to implement systems for new initiatives including data, financial, and other funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with Data and Evaluation Manager to analyze program data, and collaborate with program and data leaders to interpret results and prepare annual program outputs and outcomes reports.
  • Provide year to date comparisons of funding projections and grants received.
  • Assist with special projects within the Development and/or Communications departments and support agency campaigns or events as assigned.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all agency, staff, and client information.

Job Skills and Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent lived experience
  • Minimum of 4 years grant writing experience, including significant experience securing government grants
  • Competence in synthesizing information, ideas, and data from multiple sources into a cohesive, persuasive document that is consistent with agency image/brand
  • Ability to build positive, productive relationships and a strong network of internal and external allies and resources
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines in fast paced environment
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to act both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred:

  • 6 years grant writing experience, including significant experience securing government grants
  • Experience supervising volunteers/interns

Compensation & Benefits
The targeted hiring salary for this position is $58,000 annually dependent upon experience.
