Speakers

Courtney01.pngCourtney Backen leads the charge on institutional giving and resource building for GiveMN and RaiseMN.

Prior to joining the green team, Courtney was a fundraiser for nearly five years for Hennepin County Library, a canvasser for The Fund for the Public Interest and was the president of Panyijiar Community Development Services, a student-run nonprofit at Concordia College-Moorhead, that supports a small community in South Sudan.

Passionate about the intersection of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) and philanthropy, Courtney sits on the Association of Fundraising Professionals (MN) IDEA committee. She also sits on OutFront Minnesota’s development committee, and is motivated by helping organizations find their power and fulfill their missions. Her hope is to help create an equitable and just nonprofit industry across Minnesota (and then the world!).

Courtney graduated from Concordia College-Moorhead in 2015 with an English Literature degree and received her master’s in Nonprofit Management from Hamline in 2018.

Courtney helps build and manage partnerships around RaiseMN, and works to build resources and curriculum for nonprofits and schools around fundraising.

Mallory02.pngMallory Mitchell is a fundraising strategist at GiveMN where she coaches small nonprofits in sustainable fundraising practices.

Originally from Alabama, Mallory earned her bachelor's degree in business from the University of Montevallo and her master's degree in public policy from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Over the course of her career, she has developed a special interest in addressing issues of racial equity in philanthropy. When she's not coaching, you can find Mallory practicing yoga, scrolling through Twitter and buying more candles than one person could ever need.

Mallory serves as a fundraising coach and trainer for RaiseMN.
