About the role:
UMF’s Medical School development team is responsible for the solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of major gift benefactors for research, education, and care across the Medical School’s many departments. This team covers grateful patients, service lines, and emerging priorities in the various areas of expertise.

The UMF Heart, Medicine, and Surgery team within the Med School development team currently has two open positions:

Sr. Development Officer, Heart, Medicine, & Surgery - Surgical Program Focused
This position will focus on surgical fundraising initiatives across our surgical service lines and Department of Surgery, such as cardiothoracic and orthopedic surgery, organ transplantation, otolaryngology, and the Schulze Diabetes Institute (Apply here: https://hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/353957).

Sr. Development Officer, Heart, Medicine, & Surgery - Heart Health Focused
This position will focus on fundraising for heart health initiatives such as the Cardiovascular Division, Lillehei Heart Institute, cardiovascular service line and other Department of Medicine related initiatives, along with other key priorities of the Medical School and healthcare system. This position will play a crucial role in supporting the Red Heart Soiree - An annual event that benefits cardiovascular health - By recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers (Apply here: https://hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/353959).

Responsibilities
Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors with a specific focus on major gift prospects in assigned health areas, as well as initiatives across the Medical School and service lines.

Develop an annual plan of work, including specific fundraising, prospect development and programmatic goals with an emphasis on achieving established standards and metrics.

Builds and maintains a portfolio of approximately 125 major gift prospects to ensure that timely steps are taken toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship. Performance expectations for this level of gift officer include approximately 15 solicitations per year at $50,000 or more. Apply various giving methods such as current, deferred giving, and non-cash gifts.

Total annual gift production expectations for this level of position range from approximately $750,000 to $2 million. Works closely with prospect management and development leaders to set appropriate annual goals.

Complete, file and maintain accurate, relevant and timely reports and records of donor/prospect contacts by using our database, employing discretion while recording information of relevance to appropriate individuals.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of five years professional development experience in individual giving, with demonstrated ability to promote and successfully solicit and steward major gifts of $50,000 or more; or seven or more years of experience in marketing, consultative sales, public relations, financial advisement or related field where you were responsible for cultivating/soliciting and maintaining long-term, trusting client relationships (either individual or business) for provision of services.

Demonstrated knowledge of basic business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts.

Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
