Works with: Part-time administrative manager and contract accounting services; Contract grant writer

Compensation and Benefits: $80,000 to $95,000 salaried position; with Paid Time Off; 100% premium coverage for Health and dental; 3% retirement match; parking reimbursement

The Director of Philanthropy / Associate Director will be a partner to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to advance the fundraising of the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy, with the goal to sustainably grow the organization and develop a meaningful impact on Saint Paul’s award-winning park and rec system.

General Description

  • Collaborate with Board, Executive Director, and development staff to integrate organization-wide culture of philanthropy and shape, implement, and evaluate development strategy
  • With Executive Director, develop and implement annual and multi-year fundraising plans
  • Provide leadership and strategy for annual fundraising campaigns and initiatives
  • Provide leadership and strategy for all fundraising events, including recruiting and working with the events committee

Institutional Giving 15%

  • Supervise and oversee grant writer to ensure Foundation proposals are on time and that reporting requirements are met
  • Work collaboratively with grant writer and executive director to ensure that information is provided to the grant writer in a timely mannerExpand corporate sponsorship initiatives for events and programs
  • Steward relationships with corporate and foundation representatives in partnership with Executive Director

Individual Giving 65%

  • Employ Community-Centric Fundraising principles to advance antiracist and equitable practices across fundraising initiatives
  • Launch and support a donor-centric, high-impact planned giving program
  • Provide meaningful support to Development & Events Committees to grow individual giving
  • Support Executive Director and Board with major donor and Board-engaged fundraising initiatives, including deepening relationships through 1:1 meetings and special events
  • Manage a major gift portfolio of donors and prospective donors
  • Work with database and systems to develop an effective moves management process for donor retention, stewardship, and solicitation.

Communications 10%

  • Work in partnership with the Executive Director to support strategy and oversight of ongoing communication activities, including print and internet publications, reports, digital communications, direct mail appeals, newsletters, annual report, press releases, and communications about special events.

Operations 5%

  • Support staff recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, and professional development processes
  • In collaboration with Executive Director, plan and execute events and meetings, including internal retreats and staff and board meetings

Leadership 5%

  • Serve on finance, development, and leadership committees
  • Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to evaluate organizational strategic goals and programmatic adherence to mission
  • Represent the organization externally as requested at key meetings with stakeholders and funders

Questions may be directed to the same email. Deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. The Hiring Team anticipates conducting two rounds of interviews with staff and volunteers. The anticipated start date will be early July 2024.
First-round candidates invited to interview will be asked to provide written answers to questions as well as a writing sample. Second round candidates will be asked to provide a brief strategy presentation (more guidance to come). Incentives of $200 will be provided to all second-round candidates in recognition of their time and labor.

Qualifications:
Strong candidates will bring experience in working with diverse community groups to fundraise for successful campaigns and annual funds.
Required qualifications: at least 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, sales, or other revenue generation. Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: at least 10 years of experience in leading fundraising, development, or sales teams as a manager or supervisor; experience in capital campaign fundraising as a staff member and/or volunteer.
