Director of Grants and External Relations

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 annual salary

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Grants and External Relations is responsible for generating new grant resources and managing existing grants to ensure performance and compliance. This includes overseeing all grant writing, grant assessment, and financial compliance. Additionally, this position supports the organization’s external brand management and public-facing presence by contributing to the design and development of marketing materials and creating visual content describing the organization’s impact. This position reports to the Executive Director.

As Director of Grants, this position is a key member of the team leading IAMNCC grant programs, including Campus Compact AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA programs, and other federal and private grants. They will lead all efforts to secure new grant funding. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan
  • Support the Executive Director in developing and maintaining relationships with major funders
  • Represent the organization through presentations and meetings
  • Serve as the staff team’s core resource for grant development, reporting, and evaluation
  • Working with the executive director and the leadership team to set program priorities
  • Design assessment systems and reporting models and compiling reports
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and policies
  • Evaluate program results and implementing program improvements
  • Lead collaborative grant-writing processes
  • Keep accurate and updated records of grantor and donor information (including contact information)
  • Maintain online fundraising platforms
  • Maintain relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
  • Actively research and identify grant opportunities for internal consideration and to be publicized to the IAMNCC member network

As Director of External Relations, this position also leads all efforts to create a public image that results in additional support and resources. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and create marketing collateral aligned with grant writing, fundraising, and donor cultivation efforts, including Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact’s organizational annual report
  • Lead the process of designing, writing, and distributing marketing collateral communicating the work of grant-funded programs and projects
  • Generate content for the monthly newsletter and website related to grant-funded and sponsored programs
  • Manage Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact’s social media presence
  • Cultivate digital content and marketing campaigns related to fundraising and brand management
  • Collaborate on the annual awards recognition and planning
  • Manage external event hosting logistics, including securing host space, cultivating event sponsorships and exhibitors, and managing the design and development of event signage and materials
  • Contribute to the organizational website with particular focus on content development related to grant programs, sponsored programs, and donor cultivation

QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years of relevant experience with at least two years of experience in development, advancement, grant writing , and/or external relations.
  • Additional relevant experience may include a combination of employment, internship and/or significant community service in a community-based learning environment, higher education, or a non-profit setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience and comfort with virtual work environments, working on a remote team, and experience with a variety of technology platforms.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills and careful attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license for frequent in- and out-of-state travel.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background checks

Other desired qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree in a related field such as higher education or nonprofit development is preferred.
  • Experience with and knowledge of higher education in general and a working knowledge of community-engaged learning and civic engagement in higher education in particular
  • Experience with AmeriCorps grant management, evaluation, and reporting is highly desirable.
  • Experience with community organization capacity building, including but not limited to knowledge of volunteer recruitment, retention, and training
  • Experience with necessary technology and/or experience learning new technology platforms including those related to grant management; databases; accounting; project management; image and video editing; website management; web conferencing; and social media channels. Core platforms to our organization include Google Workspace, Trello, Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, Zoom, Facebook/Instagram, and Twitter.

JOB LOCATION
Applicants in Minnesota and Iowa are welcome to apply. Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact has offices in both Des Moines and Minneapolis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional long days around retreats and conferences. Ability to travel cross-state by car. Most days working primarily on a computer in an office.

SALARY RANGE
Between $55,000 and $60,000
