Salary Range: $58,000 - $62,000

Haven Housing, located in North Minneapolis, provides women, non-binary people, and the families they lead shelter and housing and the opportunity to explore options for their future while advocating for systems change. Haven Housing is currently seeking an Individual Giving and Communications Officer to join our dynamic team working to ensure everyone is homeful by preventing homelessness, providing safe haven, and changing systems.

The Individual Giving and Communications Officer is a key member of the external relations team, leading growth efforts for individual giving and support. The Individual Giving and Communications Officer is responsible for increasing financial support for the mission from individuals through effective planning, cultivation and communications, and stewardship.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fund Development (70%): Balancing current revenue needs and long-term goals of Haven Housing:

  • Develop annual and multi-year individual fundraising goals.
  • Create and implement individual giving strategies for donor segments, improving donor retention and identifying opportunities for growth, including:
  • Direct mail
  • E-mail marketing
  • Social media
  • In-person meetings and small events
  • Develop, document, implement, and revise as-needed engagement plans and goals for a portfolio of current and potential Haven Housing donors.
  • Identify and research potential individual donors.
  • Qualify donors based on goals for the portfolio.
  • Cultivate and solicit donors.
  • Create gift agreements to accept gifts, and work with staff to ensure gifts are properly recorded and utilized.
  • Steward the relationship with donors including
  • Creating communications content on the impact of giving.
  • Completing donor-requested reports.
  • Visiting to thank the donor in person.
  • Develop and implement strategies to acquire new donors, including:
  • Earned and paid media
  • Community events
  • Building a strong brand
  • Keep donor records up to date in Raiser’s Edge, including tracking activity and progress along engagement plans.
  • Provide regular reporting, analysis, and projections for individual giving.
  • Lead volunteers, including the Board of Directors, to support fundraising strategies.
  • Stay up to date with current trends, innovations, and new ideas in the field and incorporate new approaches to continuously improve the organization.

External Communications (20%): As part of the organization’s overall communications plan and in addition to the communications that are part of the fund development plan:

  • Develop, create, and publish communications such as blog posts, social media content, press releases, newsletters, talking points, etc.
  • Maintain digital records and archives of content (writing, photos, video).
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Ensure that all content and communications is in line with the organization’s brand standards and style guide.
  • Help assess the effectiveness of external communications.

Core Mission Support (10%)

  • Update or develop as needed organization processes and procedures related to individual giving.
  • Assist with agency advocacy (local, state, federal)
  • Assist with events
  • Attend all-staff meetings

SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE IS MEASURED BY

  • Meeting or exceeding annual fundraising goals, including dollars raised, donor retention, and donor acquisition.
  • Movement of donors through engagement plan and along the donor lifecycle ofidentification, cultivation, invitation, and stewardship.
  • Impact (reach and action) of communication content.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, public policy, public administration, English, journalism, social work, or human services preferred
  • Five or more years of experience in fundraising, with a preference for annual giving and mid-level giving programs and with responsibilities for ensuring compliance.
  • Experience fundraising for shelter, housing, and human services is also preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience creating development communications content and collateral including proposals, brochures/one-pagers, social media content, and website content.
  • Exceptional written (including copyediting and proofreading), verbal, and interpersonal communication and visual/graphic design skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and concisely to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to use or learn quickly G Suite and relational databases. Experience with Raiser’s Edge is strongly preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Cell phone is required; a stipend is available to help cover the cost
  • Reliable transportation to Haven Housing and a valid driver’s license; agency vehicles are available for transportation to funder meetings
  • On-site work with primary office space at Haven Housing @ Ascension Place (home to 32 single women and non-binary people) and travel within the Twin Cities Metro
  • Area is required. While each week will look different depending on the needs of funders and engagement strategies, employee can expect ⅓ to ⅔ of work to be completed in the office, ¼ to ½ travel, and ¼ to ⅓ of work choice of in-office or remote work. Some evening and weekend work is required as needed for donor meetings and events.
