This position is within the Presbyterian Homes Foundation which is the fundraising arm for Presbyterian Homes & Services and the Optage Division.

PURPOSE
The purpose of your position is “Creating Smiles in the Eyes of Residents” by fulfilling Presbyterian Homes’ mission and operating philosophies.

The Donor Relations Director is responsible for developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to enhance and grow charitable gifts from current and prospective donors. This position will focus on providing fundraising materials, fundraising consultation to gift planners and other PHS colleagues, and create effective strategies for direct mail appeals. The Donor Relations Director creates high level print, website, and multi-media communication content and messages that honor and inspire charitable giving. Additionally, this position will utilize DonorPerfect to seek data to support fundraising recommendations, record donor participation, create and manage donor event logistics and donor stewardship efforts (donor recognition, printed material inventory, prep materials for donor meetings, and create/execute donor seminars).

REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Donor Relations Director reports to the Vice President of the Foundation and supports the work of Presbyterian Homes Foundation through collaboration with Foundation colleagues, CEO, and other Management & Services staff, Site Leaders, and functional directors. As necessary, the Donor Relations Director will train and supervise volunteers to help with Foundation efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  3. Ability to collaborate with and work effectively with all colleagues, residents, family members, and volunteers; ability to collaborate with internal and external graphic designer(s), print and mail house vendors to ensure high quality products and meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and meet deadlines; ability to interpret data and identify exceptions.
  5. Competency to manage various stages of content production and the publication process of a donor publication (Enriching Lives).
  6. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office applications, publishing software, website updating and maintenance, and awareness of social media strongly preferred.
  7. Results oriented—drives for successful results and moves tasks and assignments toward closure; ability to meet internal and external deadlines. Sound judgment knows when to ask questions, and ability to inspire confidence among colleagues and donors as well as other external constituents.
  8. Willingness and ability to respond to grant funding opportunities when necessary including providing financial detail required.
  9. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; attention to details.
  10. Demonstrated capacity as a writer, editor, production manager, and proofreader with focus on detail.
  11. Demonstrated experience raising charitable gifts (both annual and estate); ability to identify donors who meet criteria and merit recognition.
  12. Demonstrated competency in creating charitable giving content for direct mail appeals, video production, all print material, website messaging, donor interviews, and other forms of communication with donors.
  13. Demonstrated ability to lead the creation and execution of print/video materials from concept through the production process; ability to follow branding guidelines, research, develop and fact check stories to ensure proper releases are obtained and on file. Event management experience.
  14. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops, implements, and leads a successful and integrated donor relations program that strategically targets all levels of giving as defined by the Foundation team. Ensures donors are acknowledged and recognized to encourage their financial support for PHS.
  2. Oversees and directs the development and implementation of strategic communications in multiple mediums in a timely fashion. This will include, but not be limited to, Enriching
  3. Lives, print and email invitations to donors and donor families, regular reporting to donors, direct mail appeals, year-end-reminders, employee campaigns, detailed endowment reports, gift acknowledgements, web pages, site newsletter updates, fundraising campaign materials, and press releases.
  4. Tracks donor relations and stewardship activities in DonorPerfect database to enhance relationships identify potential donors and increase the likelihood of continued contributions.
  5. Serves as a quasi-gift planning officer by raising charitable gifts throughout PHS unassigned communities.
  6. Support Optage Hospice by providing guidance on fundraising initiatives that will result in charitable gift results; participate in Optage Hospice planning meetings.
  7. Achieve an accurate and moving “case” for charitable support that explains PHS fundraising goals.
  8. Ensures special events are communicated and on the calendar of appropriate officials and targeted guests.
  9. Acts as a liaison and specialist to Foundation colleagues and PHS leaders in order to provide cultivation and stewardship assistance to individual donors and prospects.
  10. Plans and executes the annual Joy and Legacy Society event which includes 200-300 donors, Board members, CEO and other PHS leaders.
  11. Creates innovative programs and projects to thank and steward donors; executes various forms of reporting to donors on endowments.
  12. Manages and coordinates any campaign-related kick-offs and celebration events.
  13. Responsible for the writing and review of all gift acknowledgments letters, and other thank you letters as needed; creates pledge statements and endowment reports.
  14. Works closely with Foundation staff to report to donors on the use of gifts, to arrange meetings between donors and beneficiaries if appropriate, and to help celebrate gifts.
  15. Achieve and maintain quality donor communications by creating philanthropy stories for newsletter(s), and the website; create written reports, donor correspondence as needed; utilize video when appropriate, create campaign case statements, grant proposals and appeal letters and other documents as needed.
  16. Ensure superior donor relationships through stewardship which includes creative website messages, conduct research, benchmark donor stewardship work across nonprofit sectors to determine best practices.
  17. Achieve and sustain high quality donor and Foundation image through creation of a donor publication (Enriching Lives); interview donors (residents, family members, non-residents, volunteers, organizations, foundations) that reflect donors’ intentions; develop copy as needed for publications and other printed materials; serve as editor on grant applications and Letters of Inquiry as needed; and manage and regularly (monthly, if possible) update the Foundation website.
  18. Manage and coordinate relationships with office volunteers and attorney volunteers to ensure ongoing collaboration and engagement.
  19. Promote continuous self development and growth. Exhibit technical competence in the field by being familiar with and ensuring compliance with standards and established best practices including IRS gift acknowledgement rules. Maintain a basic understanding of planned giving vehicles and processes to market planned/future giving to donors. Maintain current knowledge of resources within PHS and in the broader community, organization policies/procedures and industry trends.
  20. Provides guidance to PHS Communication team to message appropriately to donor residents.
  21. Support the PHS spiritual programming; reinforce the Christian heritage and culture through communications; recognize the importance of spiritual matters to customers and employees.
  22. Other areas as identified to support Foundation goal setting and achievement as established by vice president of the Foundation.
