Position Description
The Grief Club of Minnesota seeks a qualified fundraising and communication leader to create and execute strategies to grow and scale the organization in a moment of incredible momentum.

The Grief Club of Minnesota was founded with a mission to provide a place where grieving children, teens, and their families find connections, share their experiences, and heal. The Grief Club offers counseling and special programs at no cost to grieving families and recently received a $1.6 million gift which allowed the organization to purchase its forever home in Chanhassen. This 9,000 square foot home will enable The Grief Club to drastically increase its program offerings, and with a successful development professional in place, work with new and existing donors to transform access to grief services across the state.

The Director of Development is a critical component for The Grief Club’s continued growth and excellence and will be hired as a full-time position with benefits, reporting and working closely with the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Ensure constituents across the organization understand the importance of fundraising at all levels, articulate fundraising best practices, and provide the resources and tools necessary for fundraising success
  • Oversee Bloomerang systems and processes for gift management, stewardship, and reporting
  • Manage the Development Committee as the staff liaison, working with the Chair to create agendas, guide volunteers in development work, create committee goals and provide quarterly reports on progress
  • Actively engage with the Board of Directors, including 1:1 meetings to develop fundraising and communication strategies for donors and prospects
  • Represent The Grief Club throughout the metro and beyond

Fundraising
  • Engage with donors and prospects at all levels, including new and existing donors, board members, community leaders, and patrons
  • Create a multi-channel plan for fiscal year, calendar year end, and spring appeals
  • Lead donor-facing communication efforts, including newsletters, social media, email, and annual reports
  • Manage and expand a leadership annual giving program to encourage support from $1,000+ donors
  • Develop, grow, and maintain a major gifts portfolio utilizing the donor cultivation cycle, regularly tracking progress within the Bloomerang database
  • Build relationships with corporate and family foundations, research opportunities, and write successful grants and funder reports
  • Manage and execute fundraising events including annual fundraising benefit, house parties and new concepts. In partnership with Board members and volunteers, secure event sponsorships.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, ensure 100% board participation in the annual fund and fundraising events
  • Create major gift opportunities around special initiatives
  • Develop naming opportunities and/or annual sponsorships for spaces in the new building
  • Launch and manage a planned giving program, including marketing planned giving opportunities and building a planned giving prospect portfolio
  • Expand monthly giving opportunities and explore a sustaining donor program

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience with individual, corporate, foundation, planned gifts and special events fundraising for non-profits
  • A proven track record for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts at all levels and from all sources
  • Experience scaling fundraising organizations, with a special focus on acquisition and peer-to-peer strategies
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising
  • Successful experience building metrics-based goals
  • Self-motivated, ambitious, goal-oriented
  • Evidence of creativity and innovation in developing fundraising strategies and programs for donor cultivation and stewardship
  • Extremely well-organized multi-tasker who can balance working both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to convey messages clearly and concisely
  • Passion for the mission of The Grief Club of Minnesota
  • Demonstrated ability to implement various fundraising strategies simultaneously and successfully
  • Ability to write persuasively for a variety of audiences, including donor centric communications
  • Demonstrated networking and relationship-building skills
  • Effective time-management/prioritization and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Knowledge and experience with Bloomerang preferred

The Grief Club of Minnesota is a 501(c)(3), community-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide a place where grieving children, teens, young adults and their families find connections, share their experiences and heal. The organization offers peer-based support groups, individual and family grief counseling sessions, crisis support and education to the community. All clinical services are provided by professional licensed mental health counselors and at no cost to the participants.
