ABOUT THE POSITION
This role is responsible for providing support and expertise related to donor relations, stewardship and fundraising campaigns. Extension’s Development Team is responsible for donor relationships and giving opportunities supporting the full breadth of UMN Extension and Minnesota 4-H.

The successful candidate will use excellent judgment, work independently, use discretion, possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, take initiative, work with minimal supervision, manage many projects simultaneously and think critically with an attention to detail. This position will mainly perform work from the campus office, may be called upon to assist with special projects as needed, and will need to staff events taking place during evening and/or weekend hours periodically.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor Stewardship: 35%
  • Manage Extension’s stewardship program for donors who have made previous major gift commitments.
  • Develop, implement and support internal policies and processes to steward donors for life.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to communicate with donors and program alumni. Create and participate in new and innovative ways to build relationships with Extension donors.
  • Partner with Extension’s Communications Team and UMF’s Marketing Team to create and distribute custom stewardship reports, impact reporting and custom thank you videos. Manage customized and meaningful gift acknowledgements and post-gift ‘thank you’ experiences, as needed, for major gift level donors.
  • Oversee and coordinate requests for assistance or information by prospects and benefactors to ensure positive engagement and touchpoints.
  • Manage Extension’s Dean’s Circle donor recognition program (life to date giving of $10K+), including related engagement event(s). Welcome new members to the Dean’s Circle and develop engagement strategies.

Major Gift Officer and Campaign logistics support: 35%
  • Manage comprehensive campaign operations by leading logistical support including meeting coordination, volunteer management, campaign reporting, and donor stewardship.
  • Manage timely, effective, and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, program alumni and benefactors, as needed to aid Major Gift Officers advance their relationships with prospects.
  • Provide administrative support to Major Gift Officers, including preparation, editing and review of documents, calendar management and other support duties as needed. ● Partner with Major Gift Officers to ensure follow-through on donor strategies and assist in advancing relationships with benefactors and alumni, including developing fundraising recommendations.
  • Participate in the management and execution of activities that advance donor fundraising potential.

Events and Administration: 20%
  • Manage periodic donor and stakeholder events to connect and engage program alumni for reunion, celebration, and campaign activities.
  • Collaborate and work with the development team and support the administration, day-to-day operation and organization of the department.
  • Arrange donor meetings, briefings, and events.
  • Independently manage projects as needed to meet department needs, including coordination of internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are completed successfully, accurately and on-time.

Gift Management: 10%
  • Work within the Donor Management System (DMS).
  • Manage the reporting and submittal of gifts through DMS with the University of Minnesota Foundation and manage the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) process. ● Review daily gift activity, and ensure gifts to Extension are credited to the correct DMS fund.

Required / Essential Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to meet competing deadlines
  • Proven skills in facilitation and problem solving
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with the Microsoft and Google Suite applications, and cloud-based applications
  • Knowledge of donor relations (scholarships, gift giving, endowments, etc…)

Additional Requirements
  • Must have reliable internet if/when working outside of assigned office location.
  • Travel (local and greater Minnesota) may be necessary to perform the responsibilities of this position. This person may be expected to use a personal vehicle and have appropriate insurance. Mileage and sustenance reimbursement provided according to University policies.
  • Must be able to use personal cell phone for work, and have number published.
  • Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be available to occasionally work outside of typical work hours to support evening and weekend events.
  • Must be able to submit proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit a completed religious/medical exemption and agree to comply with the University's testing requirement.

Preferred Qualifications / Selection Criteria
  • Two or more years background in development/advancement (with a preference toward higher education development), alumni relations or related experience.
  • Experience working with web-based content management systems (Salesforce Marketing Cloud, etc.) and/or graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
  • Experience writing, proofreading, and expressing ideas for external audiences.
  • Experience utilizing a donor management system
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; and proven ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Event management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials and information with sensitivity and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Ability and interest to quickly learn about U of M Extension’s mission, demographics, faculty, and current programs.
