Salary Range: $55,000 - $58,000
This position supports the optimization of Macalester’s pool of current and prospective major donors. Uses creative techniques and methodologies to ensure campus fundraising initiatives have sufficient, strategic, accessible, and well-organized major giving pools, which are critical to overall fundraising success. Is a strong user and steward of department databases and tracking systems to capture and share accurate information and actionable insights. Participates in shaping and delivering team training efforts. Assists in writing and delivering high quality queries and reports that inform and advance Macalester’s relationships with current and future donors.
Responsibilities
- Conducts research proactively and as-requested according to the ethical standards of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) to independently and proactively identify new donor prospects.
- Using creative research techniques, provides high-level research on individuals, alumni, friends, corporations and financial sources, including online databases, library and government sources, and other external repositories of public information to identify prospects.
- Utilizes and employs donor prospect screening services.
- Evaluates research results to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques. Analyzes and synthesizes accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and links to Macalester.
- Identifies donor gift capacity through the analysis and clarification of complex information.
- In partnership with donor relations, manage mailing lists for advancement.
- Prepares confidential profiles on prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations for use by the president, vice president for advancement, assistant vice president for advancement, and other advancement team members. Materials can include reports, capacity evaluations, background documents, event bios, etc. for use by advancement staff, including directors, AVP, VP, and the President’s office.
- Ensures the accuracy of prospect information. Updates and maintains donor and prospective donor profiles and database records, including biographical, financial, and philanthropic information. Assists with the oversight of the prospect development tracking system.
- Serves as a strong user of Slate, advancement's fundraising database, as well as other analysis and research tools. Supports the optimization of the tool's prospect data and moves management abilities. Participates in and contributes to the formulation of policies related to the processes and procedures of prospect management.
- Safeguards the confidentiality of donor information and maintains appropriate recording and use of information in Macalester’s constituent database and supporting systems.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity. Actively engages in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion to increase individual capacity to support institutional changes that create and sustain a more welcoming and inclusive environment across the Macalester Community. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 1-3 years of experience conducting research in an academic setting preferred.
- Knowledge of fundraising or experience working in a development office preferred
- Commitment to equitable and ethical research practices
- Curiosity about the work and interest in growing in the field
