ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION
Avenues for Youth provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid re-housing, collective housing, and host homes housing for youth and young families experiencing housing instability and homelessness. We strive to do that in a safe and nurturing environment through a social justice lens. Avenues seeks to partner with youth and young families while they define their experiences, life dreams and future. Our work takes into account historical trauma, systems of oppression, and intersectionality while being grounded in the power of resiliency, healing, and community.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Avenues for Youth is launching a Capacity Campaign. The Campaign Specialist will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications, Executive Director, Communications Manager, Campaign Consultants, Campaign Chairs, and Campaign Committee, and other staff to keep the Campaign on schedule and progressing to achieve the $15 million+ Campaign goal. The successful candidate will provide administrative, database, and project management support to properly execute the duties and tasks related to the Campaign.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Support the Campaign Committee:
- Work with the Campaign Consultants and Director of Development to assist with preparation for Campaign Committee meetings, including conducting prospect research that includes Avenues giving history and other relevant content.
- Attend each meeting, create/track actionable items and assignments, and document them in the donor database and filing system.
- Follow-up as needed after meetings to record committee member actions, donor record updates, notes, and outcomes in the donor database and filing system in a timely manner.
Prepare materials needed for major donor meetings:
- In collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications Manager, ensure that donor outreach materials are updated and tailored for donor meetings.
- Gather materials for meetings as directed by the Director of Development, Executive Director, and Campaign leadership.
Ensure follow up from major donor meetings and support campaign cultivation and stewardship events:
- Ensure the donor is thanked appropriately and receives the materials or follow-up action(s) promised at the meeting.
- Coordinate follow-up and next steps between staff, Campaign Consultants, and Campaign volunteers.
- Ensure records of the meeting are updated and filed/recorded appropriately in the database and that follow-up actions are noted so they can be acted upon in the future.
- Project manage the planning and coordination of Campaign cultivation and stewardship events, including tours, groundbreaking, small gatherings, and other events as identified by the staff and Campaign Committee.
Support the with internal Campaign coordination and planning and assist in prospect identification and research:
- Assist the Director of Development and Executive Director with preparations for internal Campaign meetings, including preparing campaign reports and pledge reports.
- Compile Campaign prospect lists for profile creation by analyzing donor data reports in coordination with the Campaign Consultants.
- Coordinate with the Campaign Consultants, in preparation for solicitation meetings, to ensure that prospect research includes Avenues giving history and details about donor interactions.
Acknowledge and track Campaign gifts and pledges:
- Create and update campaign acknowledgement letter templates.
- Work with the Database Manager to ensure Campaign donors are officially thanked promptly after receiving their gift and thanked again by Campaign and organizational leadership.
- Work with the Database Manager and Director of Finance to ensure Campaign gifts are booked appropriately in the database and accounting systems, and that the acknowledgment language aligns with the intent of the commitment.
- Enter campaign pledges into the donor database, apply campaign payments toward pledges, and coordinate with the appropriate staff and volunteers when pledge payment reminders are needed.
- Reconcile pledges and pledge payments with finance monthly.
Partner in Campaign reporting and coordination:
- Work with the Director of Development to maintain, update, and distribute accurate Campaign progress reports (from the donor database) to staff, Campaign Consultants, and Campaign leadership.
- Coordinate with other development staff to ensure that all outreach with Campaign donors is coordinated and does not conflict with the annual fund.
Other Responsibilities of This Position
- Communicate consistently and respectfully with the Board, staff, volunteers, and donors.
- Work with other staff to ensure the success of all.
- Participate in donor gatherings, meetings, and events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience working in a development or project management role, or at least 7 years of equivalent experience.
- Experience working on a campaign, preferably a campaign to raise funds for new construction.
- Two years or more of experience using a development database, preferably Donor Perfect.
- Experience with event planning and fundraising.
- Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly using Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with PowerPoint.
- Valid drivers license with the ability to travel to and from in-person meetings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, twist, kneel, and communicate. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: KEEPING US SAFE
In response to the COVID‐19 Pandemic, Avenues for Youth has worked diligently to establish strong health and safety protocols for our community. This position is hybrid role, requiring some in-person work each week in the office with the option to work remotely. Currently many job duties can be fulfilled by phone or video-assisted technology, but some situations will require in-person meetings. Any interactions that require in-person contact will involve the use of social distancing and personal protective equipment.

COMPENSATION
$49,000-$53,000, depending on qualifications. Avenues approaches staff well-being from a holistic perspective which includes our compensation and benefits program, employee assistance resources, and staff appreciation. We recently increased wages for staff in order to keep us competitive in the marketplace as well as in keeping with our commitment to provide living equitable wages. Avenues pays 85% of health insurance costs, as well as full dental, life, AD&D, short term and long term disability.
