The Major Gifts Officer executes the organization’s strategy and plans for individual donors, local business leaders and civic groups to meet organizational fundraising goals. This includes identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewardship of current and prospective donors.

The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Director of Development. A primary objective is to qualify donors and assess which donors have the capacity and inclination to consider larger gifts. In collaboration with the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer will establish fundraising goals and will create monthly reports to track revenue towards the goal.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the fundraising efforts at Jewish Family Service of St. Paul.  This is a newly created position, as the organization has robust plans for growth.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000 annually.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards individual donors.
  2. Employs Moves Management practices to engage donors, understand their philanthropic goals and objectives, and works to align donor goals with the organization’s needs.
  3. Assists with the identification and strategic approach for high-net-worth donors for the Director of Development or CEO to meet with.
  4. Identifies individual donors with the capacity and inclination to consider a blended ask that includes planned giving vehicles.
  5. Grow the endowment program which builds a pipeline of gifts that will mature in the future.
  6. In partnership with the Director of Development, assists in establishing annual fundraising goals that lead to increased giving.
  7. Cultivates local businesses and business leaders to garner their support.
  8. Files thorough call reports after each donor meeting to ensure accurate notes are kept and can be used to map out a comprehensive donor engagement strategy.
  9. Assists with special events throughout the year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Ability to build genuine, authentic, and trusting relationships with donors and stakeholders.
  2. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including written and verbal.
  3. High degree of confidentiality.
  4. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  5. Passion for Jewish Family Service of Saint Paul’s mission and vision and ability to effectively communicate its core value proposition to stakeholders.
  6. Ability to review and analyze donor data and leverage that data into actionable strategies and tactics that lead to increased fundraising results.
  7. Knowledge of planned-giving vehicles.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively and professionally in all interactions with both internal and external partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  2. 5+ years’ experience in fundraising or related sales with emphasis on individual donor identification, cultivation, and management.
  3. Demonstrated successful track record of increased donor engagement, Moves Management, and giving.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, including individual donors, business leaders, board members, leadership and staff.
  5. Commitment to acting with the highest degree of integrity, confidentiality, diplomacy, and discretion.
  6. Positive, can-do and collaborative attitude and willingness to work in a high-functioning, growth-oriented, and mission-centered environment.
