POSITION PROFILE: DIRECTOR OF INDIVIDUAL INDIVIDUAL PHILANTHROPY – GREATER TWIN CITIES UNITED WAY
kpCompanies is leading the search for the next Director of Individual Philanthropy for Greater Twin Cities United Way (GTCUW). This candidate will be an inspiring leader with the vision to move GTCUW forward while building on its 40 years of success.This will be a highly visible and inspiring leader who possesses the vision to grow and to move the organization forward while building on the foundation’s success. The Director of Individual Philanthropy will lead a team of Donor Advisors who leads the organization’s individual giving efforts.

POSITION: DIRECTOR OF INDIVIDUAL PHILANTHROPY
This highly visible role will lead the Senior Donor Advisor team to the successful relationship cultivation of major gifts. Primary responsibilities include managing the relationships of key stakeholders, securing support for donors, creating strategies to generate a comprehensive revenue goal of $30 million in contributions, assisting in the management and execution of giving plans, and managing and developing 5-6 Senior Donor Advisors and Donor Advisors.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership (30%)

  • Lead and develop the Senior Donor Advisor and Donor Advisor teams.
  • Communicate clearly with staff to foster a success-oriented & accountable work environment, provide expectations, ensure appropriate feedback is given, delegate effectively, and hold team accountable for results
  • Effectively develop and manage annual work plans, goals and resources including overseeing and managing the Individual Giving budget.
  • Communicates clearly with staff to foster a success-oriented, accountable work environment.
  • Provides clarity on expectations, ensures appropriate feedback is given, delegates effectively, and holds the team accountable for quarterly and annual results.
  • Serves on Individual Giving’s leadership team.
  • Support the United Way’s diversity and inclusion efforts.


Portfolio Management (25%)

  • Manages a portfolio of major gift prospects for the entire team and oversees the annual
  • Generation of a shared goal of $30 million in contributions.
  • Accountable for a personal portfolio goal of $500,000
  • Qualification of prospects and current donors toward Break/Through comprehensive campaign
  • Effectively utilize prospect research resources to surface prospect information that advances the organization’s ability to grow relationships and actualize major gifts


Relationship Management (20%)

  • Successfully collaborate with Advancement team peers in Corporate Relationships, Community Impact & Operations on strategy, tactical planning and ongoing process and administration of Major Gifts to ensure alignment and understanding of goals, objectives and how work integrates to support and achieve the organization’s strategic objectives
  • Works across departments to support and enhance internal and external customer service
  • Work with Planned Giving and Institutional giving to achieve revenue growth


Collaboration and Support (15%)

  • Provides staff support for United Way’s Tocqueville Society
  • Successfully collaborates with peers in corporate relations on strategy, planning and ongoing administration
  • Ensures alignment and understanding of department vision, goals, objectives and how work integrates to support and achieve the organization’s strategic objectives


Evaluation and Measurement (10%)

  • Ensure the effective use of organizational tools such as CRM to create reports, manage giving projections and analyze donor giving


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Below are some typical requirements for a Director of Individual Philanthropy. We recognize that skill sets can be a complex combination of experiences. If your background does not precisely match these requirements, but you have a passion for our work, we would love to hear from you, and we recognize the value of transferable skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree and or 7+ years of major gifts experience, including at least 3-5 years of success developing a high performing team or equivalent combination of education and experience that parallels the expectations of goal achievement in this role
  • Capital Campaign or Comprehensive Campaign experience required, with proven results closing six figure gifts.
  • Success in fundraising with individual portfolio
  • Proven experience in the philanthropic field and committed to a donor-centered philosophy of fundraising and moves management sales cycle
  • Excellent volunteer management leadership/partnership experience
  • Clear communicator with strong public presence – speaking, writing, and listening skills
  • Ability to build successful consultative relationships with diverse groups of individuals, executives, asset wealthy individuals and community leaders
  • Proven experience working cross-functionally in a collaborative team environment throughout the organization
  • High level strategic thinker and influencer
  • Experience utilizing systems to capture key donor information and utilize for decision
