The Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities Development team is responsible for securing the financial resources necessary to advance the mission of the organization. Through a comprehensive and strategic fundraising program, the department cultivates meaningful relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, faith communities, and other partners who share in the organization’s vision and impact.
The team oversees all philanthropic activities, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, organization and foundation relations, grants management, events, and donor stewardship. They ensure that every contribution is acknowledged, celebrated, and used responsibly to support programs and services. To do this, the team must work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal departments such as Marketing and Communications, Accounting, and Programs.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fundraising Associate - Midlevel plays a key role in supporting the growth of the organization’s fundraising program by helping cultivate, engage, and steward donors, particularly those with the potential to increase their giving over time. This position focuses on building relationships with casual givers, strengthening their connection to the mission, and supporting their movement along the donor pipeline toward mid-level and major giving. The Fundraising Associate initiates donor outreach, manages communications, supports events, and ensures excellent donor care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Donor Cultivation & Pipeline Growth
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects with an eye to revenue growth and retention goals.
- Create and implement strategies that increase giving and engagement from unmanaged donors.
- Implement strategies to intentionally move donors from first-time and occasional givers to more engaged and higher-level supporters.
- Identify donors with giving potential using data analysis, donor segmentation, and prospecting tools.
- Conduct personalized outreach—emails, calls, handwritten notes—to encourage deeper donor engagement.
- Conduct donor meetings, tours, and touchpoints when appropriate.
- Track donor movement and engagement activities in the CRM to ensure steady pipeline progress.
- Follows up on planned giving leads in an effort to deepen engagement.
Donor Stewardship & Engagement
- Prepare timely and personalized stewardship communications and impact updates.
- Create cultivation and stewardship plans for key donor segments (e.g., new donors, recurring donors, mid-level prospects).
- Coordinate donor recognition efforts and ensure all stewardship commitments are fulfilled.
Fundraising & Campaign Engagement
- Engage in annual giving campaigns, appeals, and fundraising events by helping with planning, mailings, donor follow-up, and tracking responses.
- Along with the Marketing and Communications Team, create messaging, content, and logistical tasks for donor outreach and fundraising initiatives.
- Evaluate results of campaigns and make recommendations based on data and donor feedback.
- Achieve fundraising goals as set forth by the organization
Events & Donor Experiences
- Plan and execute donor cultivation and stewardship events, including small gatherings, tours, and mission-focused activities.
- Provide on-site hospitality to ensure donors have a welcoming, meaningful experience.
- Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work with marketing/communications and internal programs to gather impact stories, data, and updates to share with donors.
- Partner with marketing/communications to maintain consistent and donor-centered messaging.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, customer service, marketing, or related work.

- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable making donor outreach calls and supporting donor-facing activities.
- Experience with CRM/donor management systems preferred (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Bloomerang, DonorPerfect).
- Data-oriented mindset with the ability to interpret donor behavior and engagement trends and respond appropriately to those trends when planning and implementing outreach and fundraising opportunities

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Work involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday office activities.
- Must be able to lift 15-20 lbs.
- Limited exposure to physical risk.
- Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities.
