St. Lawrence Church and Newman Center | Minneapolis, MNSalary Range: Commensurate with experiencePosition Purpose: This position oversees, leads and implements strategic planning, fundraising, and the civil operations that support the vision of the Pastor for the ministry. The primary focus of this role should be to ensure that the development and stewardship activities meet the growing financial needs. In addition, this person will also ensure these financial gifts are responsibly used to meet the overall needs of the ministry, maintain facilities and fund staff and supplies while ensuring that human resources and business affairs are conducted in accordance with parish and diocesan policies and procedures. The administrative staff reports to this position. All responsibilities and leadership roles will be executed in a manner that supports the mission.
The ideal candidate would have demonstrated success with development and is interested in taking on a broader leadership role with a small, rapidly growing ministry.
Development and Stewardship
- Drive the long-range strategic planning processes with input from staff, Finance Council, Discernment Council and Development Committee.
- Create and implement the annual stewardship and development plans that will support the strategic plan.
- Identify potential income risks and opportunities and develop plans to reduce risks and take full advantage of opportunities.
- Identify potential cost risks and opportunities that may require significant capital campaigns and develop a plan to meet these needs.
- Meet with all donors that contribute more than $6,000 at least once annually.
- Cultivate 1-2 new donors over $10,000 each year.
- Call all donors that contribute more than $2,000 at least once annually.
- Represent the ministry at social and archdiocesan events in a way that strengthens the “brand” and communicates the ministry’s message.
- Develop partnerships with all stakeholders (students, alumni, parishioners, suppliers, archdiocese, and others) to cultivate a shared understanding of the fruits of the ministry and the reasons for ongoing financial support.
- Direct and coach the communications coordinator to ensure that all communications support the mission’s goals and the development goals.
- Direct and coach the office manager to ensure that all gifts are handled in accordance with the archdiocesan guidelines.
- Work with ministry staff to understand and support the needs of the ministry programs.
- Evaluate grant opportunities and cultivate those that seem best aligned with this ministry.
Financial Responsibilities:
- Monitor organization operations and ensure employees and business practices comply with regulatory, legal and archdiocesan requirements.
- Drive the budgeting process and ensure all staff understand the importance of being fiscally responsible and hold them accountable to their budgeted expenses.
- Authorize the purchase of supplies, equipment and services, and the disposal of surplus property, utilizing competitive bid procedures when appropriate. Has purchasing authority for purchases less than two-thousand, five hundred dollars ($2,500). Any purchases in excess of $2,500 should be approved by the pastor.
- Maintain banking and other financial relationships.
- Work with the Parish Accounting Services to prepare monthly and annual Archdiocesan Financial reports and financial communications to the parish.
Facilities Management
- Facilitate the overall maintenance and repairs of the building though the use of an outside facilities management company, staff and or volunteers.
- Serve as project manager for major facilities projects.
- Manage insurance programs provided by the Diocese for property, liability and employee coverage in a manner that takes advantage of the annual Pace/Prism credit. Work with the office manager to complete the annual Pace/Prism audit.
- Develop process and procedures necessary for building access and security. Train and work with office manager to execute these policies.
- Approve service contracts for copier, lawn service, cleaning service, waste disposal, elevator maintenance and other equipment or other ongoing services.
- Manage the few remaining rental relationships (parking and gym).
- Represent or coordinate the representation of the parish in local and civic forums as needed or appropriate to ensure that parish interests are considered in municipal decision-making.
Human Resources Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the pastor, develop a positive organizational culture and promotes transparency and collaboration throughout the faith community.
- Implement and ensure compliance with parish and archdiocesan personnel policies.
- Recruit, interview and hire personnel in collaboration with the pastor; may discipline and/or terminate any staff member under direction of the pastor and in consultation with legal resources. Acts as a resource to all staff in the area of human resources and maintain employee files.

Qualifications
- Demonstrate understanding and acceptance of the Catholic doctrine.
- Must be a practicing Catholic demonstrated by regular attendance and membership at a parish in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
- College graduate with an applicable degree.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Completion of the Archdiocesan E3 certification.
- Ability to participate in some evening and/or weekend responsibilities as needed.
- Personal vehicle for attendance at outside meetings.
