OPPORTUNITY PROFILE

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Development has primary responsibility for the design, management, and execution of a comprehensive, successful fund development department responsible for securing $4 million in foundation contributions, corporate investments, and sponsorships annually. The experienced development executive will build and lead a team of experienced fund development professionals to develop a comprehensive strategy in partnership with the VP External Affairs, Founder & CEO, and members of the Senior Leadership Team and Board, inclusive of investor and donor attraction and retention, individual and major gifts, cause marketing, and sponsorships to complement the Center’s growing consulting practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as a strategist, visionary and thought partner to the CEO and VP External Affairs in guiding the Center’s annual comprehensive fund development strategy and day-to-day management of the fund development team including management of all fundraising activities.
  • Establish and lead the corporate campaigns, partnering with the CEO and Vice President of Impact & Accountability to maintain mutually reinforcing relationships with corporate investors and clients securing multi-year six-figure investments and event sponsorships from national and global corporations and local businesses, cause marketing campaigns, and other forms of investment
  • Manage a corporate, government and foundation donations strategy to nurture renewable contributions in the Centers inclusive and equitable growth solutions
  • Establish a planned giving strategy to attract and identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward donors
  • Cultivate employee, board and campaign member and on-going education and engagement to effectively deploy leaders in the Center’s development strategy
  • Support CEO, VP External Affairs and Board Members to cultivate existing and build new relationships with foundations, corporate giving leaders, and individual donors to attract and secure contributions

Partnership & Relationship Management
  • Lead and oversee donor and investor stewardship, including prospecting, cultivation, and recognition
  • Cultivate a highly responsive, proactive, and racially responsive brand for the Center among current, future, and prospective donors and investors
  • Partner with the Founder & CEO, executives, advisors, and Board Members to educate, train, and equip leaders to solicit contributions on behalf of the Center
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify multi-channel events, opportunities and special projects for donor and investor cultivation
  • Manage a personal solicitation portfolio to prospect, cultivate and acknowledge corporate and individual donations
  • Represent the Center on boards, and other committees and task forces (internal and external) as agreed upon with the Center leadership

Organizational Management and Coordination
  • Develop departmental staffing model to meet goals and lead, supervise and equip development team members and foster an environment that aligns with the Center’s values and performance imperatives
  • Lead department in monitoring revenues and expenditures and performance, operations, and investor reporting in partnership with Vice President-External Affairs and Finance Department, utilizing Salesforce.
  • Develop and oversee gift processing, data management, donor communication and engagement policies and procedures and monitor compliance in partnership with Finance & Operations Department
  • Partner with communications and marketing staff to develop and manage donor and investor communications strategy
  • Contribute to the creation and stewardship of organizational culture and ethos, both internally and externally. Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Champion institutional collaboration for fund development proposals, campaigns and initiatives engaging the senior leadership team and department leaders to effectively represent the work of the Center
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Fund Development Committee
  • Review all reports, including financial, operating, and program reporting, in preparation for CEO and Board review, Monitor use of restricted funds in coordination with Vice President of Finance and programs leaders
  • Manage organizational risk through adherence to sound policies and practices and compliance with legal requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Understanding of, and demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Center for Economic Inclusion
  • 7+ years of proven and successful track record of nonprofit and/or political fundraising; including individual and institutional donors; 2 years’ experience managing organizational fund development strategy
  • Proven track record initiating, stewarding, and moving gifts to higher levels of support. Personal experience generating $2M+ annual grant revenue
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Exemplary communicator: proven ability to deliver compelling written and oral personal and institutional messages
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders; Experience in racially diverse settings and addressing racial inclusion and equity preferred
  • Demonstrated project management and ability to lead a team to deliver on time, on budget, and in alignment with KPI’s
  • Experience developing and managing grants, donor cultivation, and events with SalesForce or other comparable CRM
  • Experienced people leadership, supervision, delegation, and engagement
  • Stature and confidence to gain the credibility and respect of high-performing Board of directors and external stakeholders
  • Proven donor prospect research, cultivation, and stewardship skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively

Compensation: The starting salary range for this position is $115,000-$125,000 and is complemented by a full suite of benefits including health, dental, vision, life, STD, and LTD insurance; mobile phone stipend, wellness, and transportation benefits; paid time off and retirement savings match. A salary commensurate with experience will be offered to complement these to the successful candidate’s experience.
