The Organization
Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative has a vision that ‘all people have a home’. We are a collaborative of congregations who together build affordable and supportive housing, shelter families, and organize to impact housing policy. Beacon is a unique organization – an experienced nonprofit housing developer leveraging the power of congregations to create the public will needed to build and sustain affordable housing. Our focus is on households who make less than $30,000 a year and those who are experiencing homelessness.

The Position
The Donor Experience Manager (DEM) leads the work to build and sustain Beacon’s individual donor base. They coordinate all phases of the giving cycle for donors at the base of Beacon’s donor pyramid, ensuring that donor experience is meaningful at every gift level.
This is a full-time position, and is eligible for health benefits, our retirement plan, and paid time off. The annual salary range for this position is $40,000 - $60,000. The position is part of the collective bargaining unit (union). This position is currently remote due to COVID. In the future, the position may be in-office, remote, or hybrid.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Donor Experience Manager is responsible for management of three core work areas:
  • 1-to-many appeals and solicitations
  • Retention and stewardship actions
  • Donor engagement

1-to-many appeals and solicitations:
  • Lead all elements of creation for direct mail appeals: approximately 2-5 donor segments, 2-6 times per year.
  • Partner with Relationship Operations team to provide quality control for gift entry. Gift entry is completed by our Donor Operations Associate.
  • Generate analysis of and report on the results of each appeal in a timely fashion.
  • Manage monthly renewal solicitation process for individual donors.
  • Lead content development and host support for donor events. Partner with Events Coordinator for logistical support and Community Connections Manager for speaking and follow up as needed. Lead follow up plans and calls post-event to solicit giving interest.

Stewardship and Retention:
  • Lead execution of stewardship events for donors.
  • Invite and engage donors via events and opportunities led by colleagues.
  • Manage specialized donor segments for targeted stewardship
  • Lead retention process including, pledge anniversary reminders, monthly volunteer thank you calling for donors, and annual summaries.
  • Reporting and analysis on success of stewardship and retention efforts. Advise on strategy.
  • Manage acknowledgement writing and stewardship actions for donors.
  • Honor the strength and resilience of our residents, shelter guests and people with lived experience of homelessness while sharing their stories with permission.

Donor Engagement:
  • Develop, track and report on pool of donors who are ready for qualification by major gift officers.
  • Prepare and carry-out annual donor engagement plans for donor segments in the qualification pool (giving $1k or more in 24 months) and donors who are in the pre-qualification phase (giving ~$400-999 in 24 months).
  • Personalize the steps of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship with a one-to-one portfolio of up to 50 donors.
  • Engage current donors to invite others to get to know Beacon’s work via Beacon Now, Beacon Academy and other presentations or events.

General
  • Develop and maintain productive, positive working relationships with other staff members.
  • Maintain a level of flexibility with all staff, offering assistance to others as appropriate.
  • Work effectively and respectfully with individuals without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity, status with regard to public assistance, membership or activity in a local commission, disability, sex and/or age.
  • Work within all agency policies, government regulations and the law.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and interest in Community-Centric Fundraising principles.
  • Proven ability to stay calm under pressure for events and deadline-driven appeals.
  • A record of setting and meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Experience with written donor appeals, e-communications and verbal (mostly phone) solicitations.
  • Experience with face-to-face solicitation or similar experience.
  • Proven ability to manage donor data and a commitment to database integrity.
  • Well-developed relational skills in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Success working independently and with a team.
  • Desire to learn and grow alongside a team interested in applying a racial equity lens to all aspects of our work.
  • Experience working with donor leaders, volunteers or both.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail when reviewing donor lists/data points, processes, etc.
  • Ability to keep a flexible schedule with occasional weekend and evening hours.
  • Mastery of Windows, Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint and Zoom.
  • Raiser’s Edge donor database experience strongly preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation (expenses are reimbursed). Willingness to travel within the metro area as necessary and within organizational COVID safety protocols. At the time of posting, all in-person activities, including in-office hours, are voluntary for this position.
