APMG's primary operating divisions Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio and American Public Media offer multi-regional FM broadcast channels, website, mobile and social media channels, live events, national content creation and distribution. Together, these divisions operate 49 public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in eight states from Minnesota, Michigan and the Upper Midwest to Idaho and California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching nearly 20MM listeners weekly through 1,000 radio stations; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce an increasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business and investigative journalism.
Your Role:As the Manager of Development Communications, you advance the philanthropic goals of MPR|APM by implementing the plans for development communications.
Reporting to the Director of Development Communications & Stewardship, you are tasked with executing a unified strategic communication plan to elevate the awareness and perception of MPR|APM within the philanthropic community and heighten donor experience and retention. You will combine strong writing and creative skills with excellent project management and organizational skills. The role partners closely with MPR & APM Membership, Audience Development, Communications, Marketing, and Audience Insights teams.
Compensation Range: $74,000 - $97,000. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

- Execute development communications and marketing plans
- Participate in the creation of the annual development communications plan, led by the Director of Development Communications
- Manage the communications plan in a shared tool, keeping multiple projects on track for deadlines, review and production
- Draft copy for donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship materials
- Provide graphic design for projects as needed, and collaborate with our creative services team on graphic design and production
- Serve as liaison to print vendors, internal marketing automation, and mail houses as needed to bring pieces to donors
- Build marketing plans for Planned Giving, in consultation with major and planned giving staff or external consultants
- Secure services and coordinate work with outside vendors, i.e., photographers, writers, printers, consultants
- Maintain MPRǀAPM and related brand standards
- Serve as internal expert and resource on branding, key messages, and language to describe our key programs
- Understand the needs of different audiences and effectively target key messages to specific groups using a variety of mediums
- Contribute to the vibrancy and engagement of donors by writing compelling stories
- Write and distribute internal Development announcements, donor news, talking points and tool kits (via Wave, Slack, email and social media)
- Collaborate with Communications on opportunities that further Development priorities, including responding to media inquiries, writing and editing news releases, media alerts, feature releases and other publicity materials, and creating media kits
- Grow digital engagement strategies for donors
- Coordinate with the existing social media team development related social media
- Create digital strategies for donor cultivation and stewardship, including video, audio and web based delivery
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, business communication or related field.
- Five or more years of experience in comprehensive, development related communications
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated success with creating and implementing communications plans that address multiple audiences, key messages and media.
- Strong project management skills, demonstrated success in managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated success integrating strategies into communications strategies.
- Experience working with design and other vendors.
- Experience supporting the development of diverse and inclusive environments, culturally fluent leadership, and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and work to deadlines

Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with major campaigns and non-profit fundraising strategies
- Knowledge of public radio programming and non-profit organizations
- Experience with graphic design, Adobe creative suite & HTML
- Demonstrated experience in digital earned and social media.
