Salary Range: $90,000 - $95,000

The Major Giving Officer manages fundraising efforts to support the YMCA of the North program areas. The Major Giving Officer networks to identify and cultivate major gift solicitations and builds relationships with existing donors to secure continued major gifts. The portfolio The Major Giving Officer manages is 125 major donors giving $1000+. The Major Giving Officer works donors through the entire gift cycle. Major Giving Officer develops strategy, goals and vision to engage existing and potential donors into events and activities to further cultivate relationships.

Job Summary:
The Major Giving Officer serves as a member of the Major Giving Team within the Mission Advancement department. The incumbent manages and executes on the YMCA’s fundraising efforts to support work in both serving the community and solving issues in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The incumbent works on major gift solicitations as part of the Comprehensive Campaign committee and Association-wide efforts.

Essential Functions:
  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 125 major donors ($1,000+) and prospects and take timely and strategic steps to move them through the gift cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Prepare and implement meaningful personal solicitations that align with donor interests and the organization’s needs and strategic plan.
  • Continue to develop knowledge and skills needed to demonstrate expertise in the field of financial development.
  • Participate/engage donors in organization events and activities as a means of further cultivating relationships.
  • Work with Data Management and Gift Acknowledgement team to ensure appropriate campaign recognition for donors.
  • Work with team members to ensure consistent messaging on program goals and vision.

Relationships:
This position reports to the Senior Director of Major Giving, who reports to the Senior Vice President, Mission Advancement. The incumbent regularly interacts with the Director of Annual Giving, Senior Director of Planned Giving, Comprehensive Campaign Committee, Association staff and branch and camp Executive Directors.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising.
  • Experience soliciting individual gifts of $1,000+.
  • Embody and reflect the values of the YMCA and be enthusiastic about and committed to its mission.
  • Have a working knowledge of federal and state gift laws.
  • Ability to build successful relationships with external stakeholders and internal staff.
  • Ability to influence individuals to give and secure necessary financial resources.
  • Effective communication skills to include ability to deliver written and verbal presentations.
  • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, and high ethical standards.
  • Ability to serve a variety of constituents in a highly professional manner.
  • Proficient user of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to travel around the Twin Cities area, greater MN and western Wisconsin is occasionally required.
Preferred:
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or other fundraising classes
  • Experience with donor management software, such as Raiser’s Edge
  • Experience working with volunteer boards
