APM is one of the largest producers and distributors of public radio programming in the world, with a portfolio that includes BBC World Service, Marketplace, and the leading classical music programming in the nation. APM also offers a diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, business and investigative journalism.
This is a pivotal and exciting time in the history of MPR/APM, which recently completed a highly successful five year, $75M campaign to fund transformation of public media. We are a collaborative major gifts team and work across the Development Division and MPR/APM departments to meet revenue goals.
Your Role:As the Manager, Donor Relations, you will be responsible for raising and growing unrestricted revenue by managing the annual giving for Minnesota Public Radio donors giving in the range of $2,500 to $10,000+. Your role is the central point of contact for such midlevel donors and manages the engagement, stewardship, renewal and acknowledgment processes for them. Working closely with leaders on multiple Philanthropic Development teams across the organization, and with major donors and external vendors, your role utilizes an exceptional ability to work both independently and collaboratively to organize, prioritize, and move projects forward in a fast-paced and creative environment. Additionally, you will have a strong commitment to advancing equity, inclusivity, and diversity in all facets of your work.
Compensation Range: $74,033 - $111,050. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Position Responsibilities:DONOR RELATIONS – 70%
- Manage a portfolio of 300-400 midlevel/major donors by developing custom communication, stewardship, and engagement strategies that successfully move donors up the ladder from Leadership Circle to President’s Circle.
- Work closely with MPR Midlevel Giving Manager, Marketplace and APM Individual Giving Managers, and Major Gift Officers to coordinate strategic efforts to create a seamless experience for new, existing, and prospective donors.
- Serve as primary contact for all new $2,500+ and otherwise unassigned donors (in addition to personally assigned portfolio) for all inquiries related to giving, benefits, events, acknowledgments, etc.
- Oversee the implementation of a robust benefits program for annual gifts of $2,500+.
- Partner with Communications and Stewardship team to conceive and implement a donor benefits program for donors in annual giving circles, as well as total lifetime/milestone donors to APMG.
- Collaborate with the Development Communications and Stewardship team in recommending donor stewardship events that meet donor needs.
DONOR PROCESSES – 30%
- Develop fundraising strategies and goals for donors giving $2,500 or more annually, including personal and automated renewal series and additional/upgrade/lapsed series to raise annual unrestricted operating revenue.
- Oversee donor acknowledgment and gift tracking process for Major Gifts team to ensure timely communication and stewardship of donor gifts.
- Serve as point person for Major Gifts team in tax substantiation process and related efforts.
- Actively utilize CRM to track donor touchpoints, activities, preferences, and interests to ensure accuracy in reporting and for use in custom outreach.
- Work closely with Prospect Research team to ensure CRM and teamwide operational processes are documented, shared, and utilized effectively. Modify as needed based on feedback and shifting priorities.
- Manage the expense budget for the position's area of responsibility and assist with tracking teamwide income/expense goals.
- Recommend process improvements as needed.
- Manage Development Assistant to implement donor processes in a timely and accurate fashion . Serve as or train back up for processes as needed.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years of experience in a development program, ideally in a mid-level or major giving capacity
- Demonstrated experience in contacting donors and/or customer service, and the proven ability to build effective professional relationships
- Experience managing staff
