Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 

Bet Shalom Congregation is located in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Bet Shalom is a Reform Synagogue affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ). We are united through Bet Shalom in creating and sustaining a vibrant and caring Jewish community that supports living Jewish values, ritual, education, and opportunities for tikkun olam - repairing our world.

Bet Shalom strives to be an intimate community and seeks to make Judaism accessible through multiple avenues for participation in synagogue life – from worship to celebration, committee work, education and participation in various interest groups based on the Jewish values of community and friendship. Bet Shalom Congregation has 735 member families and an annual budget of $3 Million.

The Bet Shalom Endowment is a separate 501(C)3 organization with its own Board of Directors and has over $5 Million in current, pledged, and testamentary commitments. Bet Shalom development efforts include fund raising to support both annual budget and ongoing capital needs, and growing the endowment with current and planned gifts to ensure long-term financial strength and stability of the congregation. Bet Shalom is currently engaged in raising funds for the You Belong Here capital campaign.

The Development Manager for Bet Shalom Congregation is responsible for developing and executing annual goals and plans, and actively participating in all aspects of fund raising. The position will report directly to the Executive Director with a dotted line to the Senior Rabbi who is actively involved in development strategy. In addition, the Development Director will work closely with the lay leaders heading up various committees for the congregation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
PLAN:
Develop and implement strategic plan for Bet Shalom to address all annual, endowment, capital, and special fund-raising activities
Coordinate all development programs with annual activity/ritual calendar and established committee activities
Develop strategies and programs for solicitation of major gifts, including cultivating ongoing relationships with prospects/donors; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out
Coordinate the ongoing placement of marketing and content in e-mail campaigns, Bet Shalom communication and other community publications
Identify current donors who could increase giving through analysis of database and prospect research

EXECUTE:
Manage day-to-day operations of the development functions ensuring alignment with the Congregation’s goals and objectives and achievement of approved fundraising goals
Support and staff development meetings and take responsibility for follow-up in partnership with lay leadership
Address and resolve problem issues for donors
Work with annual fund-raising committees to develop collateral, marketing materials and web content that address the fund-raising activities as required
Engage with the broader community and attend Congregation events as appropriate. While in general this position keeps regular hours, there are occasions including Shabbat evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays on which attendance is required for the purpose of developing congregant relationships

TRACK, REPORT and IMPROVE:
Maintain regular interaction with Executive Director, Senior Rabbi and Congregation and Endowment Presidents and other engaged lay leadership
Develop and implement best practice gift acknowledgment and tax receipting systems
Maintain and update data using Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) to ensure all relevant information relative to donors is kept current and accurate

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree required, along with a minimum of three years of development experience in a non-profit agency
Self-motivated, disciplined and goal oriented
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality of work
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal and written that are effective with diverse age groups
Demonstrated ability to personally develop strategies, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and to inspire high-net worth individuals
Ability and willingness to prospect for meetings with cold calling as necessary
PC literacy with strong competency in all Microsoft Office programs and other fundraising and data base software utilized by the Congregation
Knowledge in the fundamentals of planned giving and endowment
Ability to work flexible hours
