STARTING PAY RATE: $70,000 annually
LOCATION: Hybrid Eligible; not a 100% remote position.
SELECTION PROCESS:
- Applications submitted by April 29th will be given priority consideration.
- First Round – 30 to 45 minute phone interview with Talent Resources.
- Second Round – One hour video interview (MS TEAMS) with VP of Philanthropy.
- Final Round – Two 45 minute in person interview with selected team members plus reconnecting with VP for 20-30 minute follow-up.
- Interview questions will be provided prior to each round for candidates to prepare as you wish.
- The final interview will give candidates opportunity to see both the mission in action and our workplace environment.

The Development team is made up of the VP of Philanthropy, Corporate & Foundation Relations Officer, Events Manager, Resource Development Manager, and this newly created Individual Giving Officer position. Collectively, the team strives to raise $2 million annually in addition to special projects and campaigns. The goal of the individual giving program is to provide the organization with the resources needed to spark children’s learning through play. This position will generate revenue to support the operations of the museum, grow our community of supporters to facilitate sustainable revenue growth, and identify and nurture leads for midlevel and major gift support. This is an opportunity for you to put your stamp on the individual giving program at the museum.
Engagement SummaryIn collaboration with the Vice President of Philanthropy, you will create innovative fundraising strategies for the museum that will help to inspire donors and grow revenue. You will create and execute an individualized and engaged program, identifying trends and areas for growth in giving while managing the annual giving philanthropy plan. In this role, you will join a philanthropy team that supports delivering the museum’s mission primarily by raising funds through individuals, corporations, foundations, special events and government grants. The team fun does not stop there! You will also work closely with department colleagues to collaborate, innovate and integrate strategies that will lead to growth in fundraising for the museum. This is an individual contributor role.
Essential FunctionIndividual Giving
- Create and implement individual giving strategies for donor segments, identifying opportunities for growth.
- Develop and report fundraising measures/goals for individual annual giving.
- Create the cultivation, stewardship and donor relations processes for all donor segments.
- Lead all aspects of the individual giving solicitation strategies, including but not limited to
- Planning and executing segmentation strategies based on analytics
- Writing content for solicitations, both mailed and digital
- Creating digital appeals
- Support major and board giving strategy, including organizing strategy meetings with Vice President and President.
- Conduct prospect research of donors and identify opportunities for increased giving and prospects for major gift portfolios.
- Personally cultivate a portfolio of donors, as determined in partnership with Vice President of Philanthropy.
- Utilize donor database to ensure all donor interactions and information are tracked and stored accurately.
- Work with colleagues on the External Relations team for integrated strategies.
- In partnership with Resource Development Manager, plan and implement stewardship strategies for cultivation and retention of supporters.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the museum’s history and mission, and be prepared to speak as an ambassador of the organization.
- Champion philanthropy within and outside the museum’s walls.
Development Team Support
- Oversee use of communication tools and vendors, making recommendations for change as needed.
- Lead writing of donor communications and partner with colleagues on integrated projects (donor newsletters, online giving pages, acknowledgement letters, invitations, etc.)
- Participate in on-going activities to remain knowledgeable about the field of children’s museums, arts and cultural organizations and early childhood education.
- Serve backup as needed for other areas of the Development team.
- Assist with the implementation of events such as the annual gala, block party and other events.
- Collaborate with department colleagues on strategies, identifying organizational needs and articulate details for relevant fundraising strategies.
Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 5 years of formal education, training or experience in development or a related field, and operating in a support role for a senior level leader and team.
- Minimum of one year of experience creating and implementing individual giving strategies for donor segments.
- Demonstrated experience of creating and/or implementing strategies that resulted in growth of the program and successful results with relationship based fundraising is preferred.
- Familiarity with donor management systems or other relational databases; research and Raiser’s Edge knowledge preferred.

- Must possess excellent attention to detail, have the ability to self-direct and be comfortable working with various computer software programs.
