POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, developing, and writing inquiries, letters, and proposals requesting corporate and foundation funds to support VEAP programs and services. They will work with the Advancement Director and other program staff to understand program needs and identify funding sources to support those needs. Additionally, the Grant Writer will work with the Database Coordinator to ensure evaluation metrics are accurate as they prepare reports and presentations as requested.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work closely with Advancement Director to determine corporate and foundation funding goals, identify new funding sources, and cultivate relationships.
  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals, LOI’s, reports to a variety of corporate and foundation funders.
  • Maintain grants calendar, track, and monitor proposal deadlines, grant renewals, results of written requests, reports, and act accordingly to ensure continuation of funds.
  • Ensure all work is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Work with Database Coordinator to ensure evaluation metrics are accurately reported.
  • Work with Advancement Coordinator to maintain accurate information and update electronic donor and prospect files to include correspondence, proposals, reports, and other relevant information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or demonstrated equivalent work experience and knowledge.
  • 2-3 years of successful grant writing or fund development experience.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to create compelling, persuasive stories and utilize data to communicate needs.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting and achieving fundraising goals.
  • Talent for maintaining positive relationships with corporate and foundation officers, contacts, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Results-oriented, self-starter, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, work well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in MS Office products to include Excel, *PowerPoint, Word, and Microsoft Outlook, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to VEAP’s mission and values.

Preferred
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar database.
  • Understanding of effective proposal budgets.
  • Experience with government grant writing and contract management.
