POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Manager is responsible for annual fund development and donor stewardship that strengthens the foundation for growth in individual major gifts. Specifically, the Development Manager is responsible for annual fund planning, budgeting, implementation and evaluation including prospect identification and gift solicitation of select individuals, funders and/or sponsors. The Development Manager will work as part of the Engagement Team and collaborate in order to accomplish ASI’s monetary fundraising goals and donor initiatives. The Development Manager will supervise the Member & Donor Services Coordinator role and mentor and develop entry level staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
ANNUAL GIVING AND DONOR STEWARDSHIP
  • Create and implement annual fund development plan, revenue/expense budget, and evaluation strategies
  • Create and manage the annual development calendar to ensure year-round engagement and stewardship of individual donors.
  • Monitor and report performance of revenue goals. Analyze effectiveness of various fundraising methods and adopt successful appeals for future maximum effectiveness.
  • Responsible for achieving and exceeding annual fundraising goals for individual donors and assigned corporate sponsors.
  • Identify new donor prospects within membership and program participant audiences
  • Identify funder prospects and application timelines, prepare grant proposals and reports
  • Manage relationship building and solicitation process for select individual donors or funders
  • Provide prospect management support to the CEO, Director of Engagement, Board of Trustees and other key volunteers, as assigned, including preparing prospect management plans and case materials.
  • Work closely with Director of Engagement, Engagement Strategy Manager, and Programs Staff to build a sponsorship program.
  • Create and write donor appeals, stewardship reports, event copy, and other donor communications.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive individual donor/funder recognition program.
  • Oversee donor/funder cultivation and recognition events.
  • Prepare and oversee donor/funder stewardship communications and strategies.

ENGAGEMENT TEAM
  • Participate in regular Development and Engagement Team and organization-wide meetings.
  • Supervise entry level development staff to provide work direction, performance appraisals, informal feedback, and mentor and develop staff.
  • Analyze and report relationship management activity using Altru system including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective and current individual donors.
  • Work with Engagement team to identify grant opportunities and prioritize initiatives.
  • Write grant proposals and reports to government, corporate and foundation funders.
  • Monitor philanthropy trends and opportunities.
  • Promote and deepen a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 4+ years of successful nonprofit fund development experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to budget and meet financial goals.
  • Working knowledge of grant writing and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Experience with Altru, Raiser’s Edge or other donor relationship management system.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to present information to staff, public groups and/or trustees.
  • Professional attitude, appearance, and ability to warmly engage a wide variety of people.
  • An interest in Swedish and Nordic culture a plus
