Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000

Summary
This role is an important strategic leadership role that defines and implements strategies to ensure the fundraising goals of the organization are achieved. This position is designed for a seasoned fundraising leader with a track record of success to lead fundraising growth strategies, and manage a large team to achieve revenue and engagement goals. This person oversees the membership program, annual fund, individual major gifts program, planned giving, corporate and foundation grants and sponsorships, prospect research, and donor communications and stewardship programs. The Director serves as part of the Mission Advancement Leadership Team and partners with colleagues across the organization to strengthen the culture of philanthropy and collaboration, and incorporate museum values into all aspects of the fundraising program, with an emphasis on centering equity in our work. This position is responsible for major aspects of large fundraising initiatives, including capital campaigns, and works closely with the Vice Presidents, President/CEO, Board of Trustees and other leaders across the institution to ensure fundraising success. The Science Museum is seeking an experienced fundraising professional with proven experience managing a successful fundraising program, knowledge of growth strategies and practices, and experience with capital campaigns.

  • Provide strategic direction and guidance for the department to meet funding goals.
  • Define donor and prospect strategies to engage individuals, corporations, foundations and federal funders with the mission of the organization.
  • Ensure annual fund, project/program funding, membership, trustee engagement, major & planned giving, sponsorships, and corporate/foundation giving are defined and fully implemented to meet goals.
  • Set fundraising goals in collaboration with leadership, and implement effective processes, systems and staff supports to achieve those goals.
  • Develop strategic funding priorities and donor opportunities that support the museum’s overall strategies and plans.
  • Develop and implement donor engagement, communications, recognition and portfolio management programs to maximize fundraising success and results.
  • Lead the team to create and implement community-centered fundraising strategies to broaden pathways to engagement and support and in alignment with the museum’s equity goals, values and plans.
  • Manage, build and maintain internal and external relationships that further the mission of the museum by cultivating relationships between the Twin Cities’ donor community, philanthropic leaders and the museum.
  • Coach, manage, supervise, and develop a team to achieve high performance while meeting the needs of the mission.
  • Lead, manage, coach, supervise, and develop the fundraising and membership team to achieve high performance while meeting the needs of the organization.
  • Ensure team members are working on the right strategies by providing direction, support and guidance to team members.
  • Identify and nurture the professional development of team members.
  • Ensure best practice fundraising systems and processes working in partnership with others on the Mission Advancement Team and organization (finance, IT, visitor relations, etc.)
  • Collaborate with leaders across the institution to develop goals and strategies in support of philanthropy, and support fundraising growth.
  • Serve as a member of the Mission Advancement leadership team ensuring the success of the Division.
  • Partner with other museum leaders and departments to create and implement processes to maximize contributed revenue growth, ensure successful implementation of engagement programs and funding initiatives, and sustain a strong culture of partnership across the museum.
  • Keep abreast of market, new technologies, trends and practices to ensure the long-term sustainability of the individual giving programs.
  • Ensure the organization has the necessary research and information to understand donor trends that results in increased engagement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
