Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000
DescriptionThe Legacy Giving Associate (Western USA) works as an integral member of the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF)’s philanthropy team. This is a full-time position that reports to the Director, Legacy Giving, and collaborates with the Legacy Giving Associate (Eastern USA) and other teams within AWF to build AWF’s pipeline of legacy gifts.
This is a forward-facing role, with some administrative duties as assigned by the Director. The LGA is responsible for acquiring and stewarding relationships with legacy donors in his/her geography, often in collaboration with the donors’ legal and financial advisors, and/or other AWF staff where appropriate.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIdentify, cultivate, and solicit a pipeline of planned giving prospects through mail, email, phone, video chat, and face to face visits.
- In collaboration with other AWF staff, develop a robust portfolio of individuals in all stages of the planned giving continuum (west of the Mississippi), deepening the donors’ connection to AWF.
- Prepare gift annuity illustrations using PG Calc and/or in collaboration with our partner, the National Gift Annuity Foundation.
- Assist our law firm in facilitating the completion and return of signatures/notarizations on estate documents as needed.
- Ensure all interactions with donors are carefully documented and entered into our database, Raiser’s Edge.
- Maintain professional aptitude in the gift planning field by keeping abreast of gift vehicles and strategies, industry trends and changes to tax law, through conferences, seminars, specialized training, and professional literature (when appropriate and within the budgetary limits).
- Keep informed of AWF’s programs so as to articulate our needs and accomplishments effectively to donors.
- Assist the Senior Manager with compiling marketing content, including donor profiles, and maintaining an AWF/Legacy-themed social media presence.
- Other administrative tasks as needed (expense reports, data entry, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 1 year of Development experience, ideally in gift planning, OR a similar combination of education and expertise.
- Must be a self-starter with strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work independently, and also collaborate with a team.
- Aptitude for building strong relationships with a wide range of personality types.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- Must be comfortable with picking up the phone and engaging with donors in person.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge and PG Calc a plus.
- Familiarity with conservation in Africa, especially AWF’s programs, a distinct asset.
