Foster Advocates was founded in 2018 to address the lack of policy and advocacy organizations working to improve the foster care/child welfare space in Minnesota. We believe that those closest to a problem are the closest to solving them and organize and develop the leadership of Fosters to direct advocacy, policy, and research to improve outcomes for our community.

The Director of Development and Narrative role will lead Foster Advocates’ development work by providing vision, strategy, execution, and leadership for donor communications. The Director of Development and Narrative will work to strengthen Foster Advocates’ individual donor program, oversee institutional giving partner relationships, and manage the communications coordinator as they elevate the voices of Fosters. This role will entail creating an annual plan guiding this work, managing content, and utilizing EveryAction. The Director of Development and Narrative will have a passion for foster care empowerment and the ability to communicate that message to supporters.

Desired Qualifications
  • Strong relationship-building skills with demonstrated experience working in diverse communities

  • Experience facilitating meetings and/or organizing groups around a common goal
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, self-direct and prioritize among competing goals, and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Have lived experience in foster care and/or experience with child welfare systems
  • Demonstrate commitment to Foster Advocates' core values, for example, the philosophy of young people as leaders in deciding and advancing their own priority issues and passion for working with young people
