Summary
The Marketing and Communications Associate is part of the Advancement and Communications team and is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing the communication and marketing plan for the agency with a focus on driving fundraising results, event revenue, and community engagement.

This position develops and implements a comprehensive multi-media strategy to grow engagement with donors, volunteers, funders, staff, general public, and segmented audiences.

The Marketing and Communications Associate will also be responsible for writing communications content, working directly with graphic designers, developing relationships with freelancers and vendors, managing Simpson’s social media presence, proofreading, and editing copy. This position will oversee all marketing and communications calendars and serve as the project manager from concept to completion for all deliverables. The successful candidate works collaboratively with their supervisor and builds strong relationships with colleagues.

An ideal candidate enjoys collaborating with a variety of stakeholders internally and externally. Brings experience working in a variety of media and digital formats, and has the drive to shape mission-driven stories aligned with Simpson’s mission, values, and commitment to anti-racism

This role will be supervised by the Director of Advancement and Communications and will work

closely with five team members including the Advancement Operations Manager, Private Grants Manager, Annual Fund Coordinator, and Advancement Coordinator. The team is responsible for acquiring resources and building capacity to advance Simpson Housing Services’ mission to house, support, and advocate for people experiencing homelessness.

Simpson Housing Services offers a hybrid work model with a flexible work schedule. This position will occasionally work evenings and weekends. SHS requires all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Responsibilities:
  • Support all mission-based deliverables for the agency’s advancement and communications needs with a focus on lifting diverse voices.
  • Manage the editorial calendar and production schedules.
  • Participate in strategic planning to develop and write content for the following communications channels and deliverables:
  • 4-5 Social media posts on a weekly basis for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • 2 print newsletters per year and monthly electronic newsletters
  • 2-3 fundraising appeal letters annually.
  • Quarterly thank you/tax acknowledgement letters
  • Weekly website updates
  • Voices of Simpson: Blogs, Videos, and Podcasts
  • Special fundraising campaigns, comprehensive campaign, and Give to the Max Day
  • Create event campaign materials for Art 4 Shelter, Music 4 Shelter, Homeless Memorial March and Service.
  • Annual Report
  • Press releases and advertisement campaigns
  • Additional marketing materials as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with freelance writers and designers.
  • Support the publishing of all communications deliverables on all digital platforms and print.
  • Maintain regular updates on the website with current, engaging, and accurate content.
  • Manage calendar of social media posts and aim to increase presence, impact, and engagement across social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Create actionable plans to both grow and maintain followers through social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn
  • Monitor and evaluate performance on all social media platforms by using analytical tools such as Google Analytics.
  • Ensure all communications materials are reinforced with a consistent brand, voice, and identity.
  • Research, develop, and maintain an active media contacts and press list.
  • Create press releases and media stories.

  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and workshops hosted by SHS about diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and other related topics.

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in mission-driven nonprofit, community-based organization, communications, or equivalent educational experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with multiple social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Desired experience in website design, editing, and basic HTML.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, Word Press, Google Analytics, and Constant Contact.
  • Proficient using multi-social posting programs such as Hootsuite and HubSpot
  • Communicates effectively in writing, in-person, and through phone and video conferencing to internal and external audiences.
