Jesse offers trainings, workshops, evaluations, assessments, and strategy development for your school, business or organization. Jesse has been engaging his audience with his Morning Minute call-to-actions on his Instagram and LinkedIn page since before our world went into civil unrest.

1A: IDEA, an Avenue for Transformation of Philanthropy
Our panel of fundraising and philanthropy professionals will take our audience on a journey to learn why the intersection of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) are not only relevant to the nonprofits and corporations we engage with, but key to transformational success for fundraising and philanthropy. We’ll tackle pressing issues and cite personal and professional game changers, ending with a call to action. There will be time for dialogue at the end.

Aileen_Sanchez.jpgAileen Rosa Sánchez is an entrepreneurial, donor-centric strategist with a successful career increasing revenue and furthering organizational missions. She currently serves as Senior Director of Philanthropy at Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota and Children’s Home of Minnesota. Aileen graduated from New World School of the Arts, received her BA from Oberlin College and MBA from Augsburg University. Aileen was an inaugural AFP IDEA Fellow and also received the Oberlin College Community Action Fellowship, Mayo Clinic Bronze Quality Fellowship, Metro State University Community Development Careership, and Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) Next Generation Philanthropy Fellowship. She is also a certified Culturally Conscious Collaborator. Aileen is an avid volunteer, currently serving as a board member of the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) and a member of the City of Lakes Rotary in Minneapolis. She helped found LEDC and the New World School of the Arts Foundation in Miami, FL. A first-generation Cuban-American from Miami, Aileen learned English on Sesame Street. She lives with her daughter and a small menagerie of animals in North Minneapolis. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and is part of the LGBTQ+ community. Aileen enjoys spending time in community with her family, learning languages, running with her pups, making music, and participating in faith communities.

Anil_Hurkadli.jpgAnil considers it his life's work to ensure people have what they need to thrive. Prior to joining the Saint Paul and Minnesota Foundation, he consulted for various national organizations, led strategy for a corporate foundation, served as an executive director with Teach For America, and opened schools for Minneapolis Public Schools. At the Foundation, Anil serves as chief strategist for grantmaking and community impact. He will also manage relationships with the organization’s client foundations: F. R. Bigelow Foundation and Mardag Foundation. Anil is a passionate advocate for students and works to improve opportunities for young people as a board member for the Coalition of Asian American Leaders, New Vision Foundation, World Savvy, and Achieve Twin Cities. His writing has appeared in MinnPost, the Star Tribune, the Boston Globe Magazine, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, and Education Week.

Lataya Allseits has worked in corporate partnership roles for five years most previously at U.S. Bank Stadium and currently at Greater Twin Cities United Way. In her present position as a Business Relationship Officer, she helps national and international companies align their Corporate Social Responsibility goals and ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) goals with community investment, volunteering, and educational opportunities within United Way’s global network. In addition, Lataya is an Executive Board Member for the Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce serving as the Sponsorship Chair. Lataya has always felt a calling to help individuals in our community overcome systemic barriers and advance towards prosperity. She believes the opportunity to act on these desires alongside corporate partners leads to what really matters: diminishing disparities and changing systems.

Alfonso Wenker is a lauded movement and thought leader driven to convene, connect, and coach top executives to better align values with practice. President and Co-founder of Team Dynamics, Alfonso is focused on organizing teams to co-create new paradigms for how people can work and lead. During the historic campaign for the freedom to marry, Alfonso was recruited and served as the Deputy Finance Director for Minnesotans United for All Families. As a third generation Mexican American, queer, Christian, man living in Minneapolis, Alfonso consistently gathers and responds to communities calling for racial justice and gender liberation. Before Team Dynamics, Alfonso spent more than a decade in the field of philanthropy where he worked tirelessly to advance racial and LGBTQ justice while creating new opportunities for People of Color to break into and lead in the field. Alfonso’s work has been recognized as a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, Minnesota Nonprofit Catalytic Leader, and St. Paul Foundation’s Facing Race Anti-Racism Awardee.

1B: Tips and Ideas for Using Video to Better Engage Donors
Nonprofits use the power of video to tell stories and inform the public but don't often consider using it to steward donors. We know that ongoing donor engagement helps retain donors and encourages increased giving. Yet, we are still very reliant on mailed appeals and emails to communicate with our most loyal supporters. Videos can help us diversify our methods of communication—and you don't need a Hollywood-scale production budget to get started.

Frank got his start as a student telethon fundraiser and joined Gratavid after serving as Senior Donor Advisor at The Greater Twin Cities United Way. He has 14 years of fundraising, sales, and marketing experience across the higher education and social service sectors. He serves as the Chair of the Education Committee for AFP Minnesota and also serves on his alma maters Alumni Board.

New to fundraising or working at an organization that is? Join this session to learn what goes into a successful fundraising program. We’ll discuss strategies for identifying and engaging donors and funders and how to partner with your board on fundraising. Take home practical strategies to build your organization’s fundraising muscle.

Tricia_Wright.jpgTricia Wright is an independent nonprofit fundraising and strategy consultant and the Executive Director of onward Eden Prairie, a nonprofit that provides supportive housing to young adults experiencing homelessness. Tricia has consulted with dozens of mission-driven organizations spanning the nonprofit and public sectors, helping her clients raise over $80 million to fund their missions. She excels at guiding organizations through fundraising program development, campaign preparation and implementation, and strategic planning. In her role as Executive Director of Onward Eden Prairie, she leads the fundraising of the organization in partnership with board and community leaders. Tricia holds an MBA from the Carlson School of Management, where she focused her studies on organizational leadership and social entrepreneurship. She got her start as a fundraising consultant while working with Campbell & Company and consulting with clients across Campbell’s Pacific Northwest division. Tricia serves as AFP-MN's President-Elect, Treasurer, and VP of Membership.

What does the current state of donor retention in the sector look like and what can we learn from it? In a nutshell: The personal touch works. Creating a second gift strategy will help you make retention a priority. In this session you'll learn why donor retention is important while gaining practical retention tips and real-world examples you can use to ensure that your donors keep giving.

2A: The Joy of Giving and the Philanthropic Spirit

Are happiness and joy the same? What role do these emotions play in manifesting the Philanthropic Spirit? Encouraging optimism and attracting positive energy are often topics of self-help books. Frank Rosso said in Achieving Excellence in Fundraising, Fundraising is the gentle art of teaching people the joy of giving. The joy of giving is the Philanthropic Spirit. Utilizing active participation and personal reflection activities, this presentation will target happiness and joy and give you tools to inspire a philanthropic spirit in your organization among the board, staff, volunteers, and donors.

The Mankato Area Foundation views nonprofits as partners in solving the community’s most pressing challenges and is supporting their work in more ways than writing a check. 3B: Nobody Puts Gift Planning in a Corner! Integrating Legacy Giving
Planned giving doesn't receive the attention it deserves in many nonprofits, due to perceptions of it being difficult or intimidating. But if you are not incorporating gift planning strategies into your donor relationship management, you are leaving gifts on the table ... namely, gifts of non-cash assets.

In this session, participants will learn why every fundraiser needs to know gift planning basics, and how to be proactive in uncovering gifts of non-cash assets. Opportunities will exist to develop strategies to use with donors.

3C: Capital Campaigns
I have people ask me all of the time about how to get their board or organization ready for a capital campaign. In my session we will walk through the fundamentals and steps to prepare for a campaign. Campaigns can be for adding to your operations fund, endowment or to raise money for a new building or addition. All of those areas are important and are usually a result of a strategic plan process. In addition to the steps to preparing for a campaign, we will discuss the importance and necessary steps to fund your strategic plan!

With more than 35 years of fundraising and nonprofit management, Tim has extensive knowledge of capital campaigns, leadership giving and management of high-level volunteer relationships.

Tim served the American Cancer Society for 18 years, leading campaign projects across the country to a total of more than $225 million. He personally closed several large gifts, including the largest gift in the 105-year history of the Society. Tim began his service to the community at the YMCA in management and annual fundraising positions at small and large Ys for 18 years.
